A joint venture providing asset management and energy solutions is seeking an experienced M&E Surveyor to join its team at HM Naval Base Portsmouth. The role requires strong mechanical and electrical expertise, excellent communication skills, and a solid understanding of building regulations. Salary: £37,000 – £47,000
As an M&E Surveyor, you’ll be an integral part of the multi-disciplined team of surveyors within the Estates Surveyors Team.
He or she will be working within a team of Building and Civil Engineering, Mechanical and Electrical and Mechanical surveyors providing thorough analysis of mechanical and electrical defects and compiling detailed reports/scopes of work of desired solutions and cost estimates of proposed works. For this particular role we are seeking someone with a strong mechanical background including heating / ventilation experience etc.
He or she should be capable of developing effective business relationships, understanding key drivers for HMNB Portsmouth (Royal Navy and KBS Maritime) and be proactive with regard to the development and implementation of appropriate innovative solutions, all of which will assist in the execution and facilitation of the overall strategy.
You’ll bring at least five years of technical, or surveying experience gained within the construction industry or a similar facilities management environment, along with a strong understanding of construction site safety requirements and Health & Safety legislation, including CDM regulations and best practice. A solid knowledge of building systems technology and pathology is essential, as well as the ability to operate confidently both as part of a team and independently when required. You should have a thorough working knowledge of building regulations, statutory requirements, current regulations, and Approved Codes of Practice, and be able to apply these effectively in your role.
With a minimum HNC qualification in a mechanical and / or electrical surveying or engineering discipline, you’ll also be supported by relevant technical training for e.g., heating engineering, 18th Edition, asbestos awareness, working at height and confined spaces. You’ll combine strong technical expertise with the ability to simplify complex information for a wide range of stakeholders, ensuring clarity and confidence in your recommendations.
Alongside your technical skills, you’ll demonstrate excellent interpersonal qualities, building positive relationships, remaining approachable, and showing respect and tolerance in all interactions. Emotional stability and confidence in your own ability are key, as is strategic thinking: you’ll be able to determine and justify the right future state for projects and outline practical steps to achieve it in harmony with wider business plans. Your ability to articulate complex data clearly, coupled with a proactive and collaborative approach, will make you an invaluable member of the team.
