Job Summary

Applications are invited to apply for the bank position of Low Visual Aid Clinician B7 0.2 wte/ 7.5 hours - adhoc sessions. They will be required to provide a comprehensive, high quality Low Visual Aid (LVA) service as an autonomous practitioner and to work as an effective member of the multi‑disciplinary teams.

You will be joining our diverse team which includes Contact Lens & anterior segment specialist (service lead), optometrist, service coordinator, ECLO and the ophthalmology team.

We are looking for dedicated, enthusiastic and motivated applicants, capable of working individually and as part of a team.

The post holder will act as a focal point for the LVA service, developing close links with Ophthalmology & Orthoptic team, medical secretaries, clinicians and Orthoptic Leadership Team.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide a comprehensive, high quality Low Visual Aid (LVA) service as an autonomous practitioner and work as an effective member of the multi‑disciplinary teams.
  • Undertake a clinical leadership role that requires advanced specialist knowledge within this discipline and help develop staff working in this domain.
  • Use advanced clinical reasoning to include assessment, diagnosis and management of patients with varying degrees of sight impairment.
  • Supply appropriate LVA as necessary including adjustment and maintenance to maximise the patient's visual potential.
  • Provide comprehensive teaching to ensure maximum visual potential is attained and maintained.
  • Maintain and enhance professional knowledge and skills required to practise as an advanced practitioner and keep a personal professional development portfolio.
  • Undertake audit and research activities.

Essential Qualifications
  • BSc in Orthoptics, Optometry, Ophthalmic Dispensing Optician BSc/FDSc with additional Professional certificate LVAs or Ophthalmic Medical Practitioner who has the appropriate qualification.
  • Post graduate Level 7 (MSc) in LVAs
  • Registration with GOC / GMC / BIOS
