Salary: £17,880.77 - £26,186.41 Actual, £29,801.28 - £43,644.02 Full Time Equivalent per annum

Hours of work: 21 hours per week (inclusive of teaching and prep time), 52 weeks per year, Permanent

About the role

The Lecturer for Accounting/AAT is responsible to the Curriculum Manager for providing the high-quality teaching and learning, pastoral and academic support and programme leadership that will enable the College to meet these broad objectives. Team working and communications within an overall approach that values people will be of key importance. AAT accounting at Levels 2-4 at City of Portsmouth College is taught in partnership with Mindful Education and follows a blended learning approach. The role involves facilitating interactive workshops, monitoring online progress through digital dashboards, delivering targeted interventions, and preparing learners for AAT assessments. The postholder will ensure an exceptional learner experience that supports both adults, apprentices and 16–19 learners to achieve professional accounting qualifications. You will set work, assess and grade submissions in line with awarding body criteria and requirements. Own your course and look for opportunities to develop the learning experience and introduce additional learning interventions.

Key Responsibilities
  • To teach on AAT Accounting / Business programmes, providing high quality learning opportunities that meet the needs of individual students and groups in line with the College’s strategic priorities and objectives.
  • Deliver high-quality AAT Accounting teaching across Levels 2–4 within a blended learning model, combining Mindful Education online content with in-person workshop delivery.
  • Use the Mindful Education tutor dashboard to monitor learner progress, identify learners at risk, and implement timely interventions. To provide targeted academic support based on data, ensuring learners are confident in core AAT competencies such as double-entry bookkeeping, costing, tax, ethics, and financial statements.
  • Plan and facilitate weekly workshops that apply and extend the online learning through exam practice, case studies, guided problem-solving, and formative assessment. To support learner progress and closely plan, monitor, track and record student retention, achievement and success.
  • Collaborate effectively with Mindful Education and internal curriculum teams to ensure smooth course sequencing, assessment planning, and learner progression.
  • Maintain high levels of learner engagement by setting online study expectations, monitoring completion of digital lessons, and reinforcing independent learning skills.
  • To contribute to the development and delivery of high quality, relevant curriculum and programmes; to devise, develop and engage with activities designed to provide opportunities for students the chance to develop entrepreneurial skills both inside and outside of the classroom.
  • To act as a Programme Leader for an Accounting / Business Programme; to contribute to course quality assurance, including standardisation, internal verification, exam preparation, and supporting AAT audit requirements.
  • To provide academic and pastoral support to Accounting / Business students: Provide professional, timely feedback on learners’ progress both in person and through digital platforms and promote a supportive and inclusive learning environment for adult and 16–19 learners, ensuring accessibility needs are met across both digital and classroom environments.
To be successful in this role, below is what we would need from you
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Accountancy
  • Understanding of working with AAT qualifications
  • AAT qualifications to Level 4 or Higher
  • Teaching Qualification or willing to work towards
  • Ability to meet targets within set timescales
  • Ability to work well in teams but also to work independently, with the minimum of supervision
  • Computer literate
