Job Overview
Are you a pharmacist with a passion for education and development? We are looking for a dynamic person to lead the education, training and continual professional development of our pharmacists throughout their career and to deliver on the priorities of the NHS 10‑year plan.
In an acute hospital setting, you will lead the delivery of our foundation training year and experiential undergraduate placements for MPharm students at the University of Brighton, engaging in patient‑facing clinical practice and contributing to the strategic vision for education and development within the pharmacy department.
Main Duties of the Job
- Act as Educational Programme Director for Post‑Registration Pharmacists and the Foundation Trainee Pharmacist Programme.
- Liaise with local, regional and national bodies to enable trainee recruitment and ensure a quality educational programme that meets professional and NHS requirements.
- Support both academic and work‑placed learning as advised by the University of Brighton.
- Line‑manage Trainee Pharmacists and specialist pharmacists within the education and development team.
- Serve as an Educational Supervisor, Designated Supervisor and, once annotated, a Designated Prescribing Practitioner.
- Collaborate with the Lead Technician Education and Development to deliver the department’s continuing education activities, including supporting education programmes and clinical training for other staff.
- Provide leadership and mentorship support.
- Facilitate multi‑disciplinary training, including prescribing safety assessments for foundation doctors.
- Provide a clinical pharmacy service, applying non‑medical prescribing skills (once annotated).

Person Specification
Qualifications
- BSc (Pharmacy), BPharm or MPharm.
- Current GPhC registration as a pharmacist (vocational master’s in pharmacy and/or foundation year experience).
- Postgraduate diploma or MSc in pharmacy with predominantly clinical content, or equivalent experience.
- CPD portfolio showing an ongoing commitment to personal development.
- Registration with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and/or UKCPA.
- Royal Pharmaceutical Society Faculty accreditation or working towards completion of an advanced practice portfolio.
- Training in pharmacoeconomics/resource or change management.
- Recognition as an education supervisor.
Experience
- Post‑registration experience in a clinical pharmacy role within a hospital setting.
- Experience providing education and development to pharmacy staff.
- Experience utilising information technology for data input, retrieval and report generation.
- Experience managing trainee learner challenges or providing additional support to trainees.
- Experience mentoring and training pharmacy staff.
- Experience in training programme delivery for pharmacy staff in a clinical setting.
- Experience as a Practice, Educational, Designated Supervisor and DPP.
- Experience in recruitment and selection.
- Experience in training and group facilitation with both small and large groups.
