Lead Gas Engineer – Join the PT&E Team

Step into a role where your technical expertise keeps critical equipment performing at its best.

As a Lead Gas Engineer, you’ll take charge of Cadent’s Plant, Tools and Equipment operations—overseeing the testing, maintenance, fault‑finding and repair of a diverse range of mechanical and portable electrical assets, including those approved for use in hazardous environments. From gas detection instruments and drilling or bagging‑off equipment to fire extinguishers, generators, and complex hydraulic and pneumatic systems, you’ll ensure every item is safe, reliable and ready to support frontline operations.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee testing, maintenance, fault‑finding and repair of mechanical and portable electrical assets used in PT&E operations.
  • Ensure equipment is safe, reliable and ready to support frontline operations, including those approved for hazardous environments.

  • Mechanical Plant Equipment – Proven experience in mechanical plant maintenance, ideally including the full range of equipment used within PT&E operations.
  • Workshop Maintenance – Hands‑on experience in a workshop environment carrying out maintenance, testing, fault‑finding and equipment servicing.
  • Safety, Governance & Leadership – Demonstrates safety‑first leadership, confident in audits and assurance processes, and able to influence and support teams to uphold high PT&E standards.
  • Professional Development & Training – Must be willing to obtain an in‑house PAT testing certificate, operate a site‑based FLT, and complete manufacturer training for all network equipment.
What You'll Bring
  • Flexibility & Mobility – Full, valid UK driving licence and willingness to work flexible hours (typically 42 hours per week, subject to business needs).
  • Technical Competence (Gas & PT&E) – Strong gas engineering knowledge with a clear understanding of PT&E use, inspection, maintenance, compliance requirements and PEWER & LOLER.
