We know people are central to building a better future, quicker and we are seeking new talent to join our team.

As part of the SP Transmission (SPT) Asset Strategy team, the Lead Engineer plays a key role in enabling SP Energy Networks to achieve our goals. The Asset Strategy team is the strategic asset management function of the Transmission network, setting long‑term asset management strategies, asset policies and intervention plans for the Transmission assets.

The team provides leadership and direction in asset risk modelling and management, engaging with the Operational and Delivery businesses to set priorities and adapt to evolving network needs. We lead engagement with the regulator and other government bodies to ensure the efficient management of network assets and delivery of outputs.

Our Engineers display technical leadership by participating in industry working groups and other collaborative activities as needed, guiding and supporting innovation projects, developing and testing new tools and methods to improve business capability and efficiency, and sharing knowledge in matters relating to asset performance and risk.

Develop strategic long‑term asset risk plans, effectively communicating, translating and managing the ongoing business plan. You will continuously develop maintenance strategies for Substation equipment to maximise asset availability in line with industry best practice.

Enhance condition assessment strategies, ensuring asset condition is fully understood to inform future investment strategies, feeding asset risk systems with appropriate data, and lead future asset failure investigations to improve processes.

Manage the network and asset assurance framework, also manage asset risk, liaising with other industry parties on the Transmission system through definition of asset management strategies and plans in a cost‑effective manner.

Whilst providing specialist engineering support across SP Energy Networks, you will also engage on behalf of SP Energy Networks with key industry stakeholders on the technical development of asset risk management, ensuring that SP Energy Networks’ position is well understood and viewed favourably.

What you'll bring

Educated to Degree standard in Electrical Engineering or possessing relevant experience, you will hold Chartered membership of the IET, or equivalent, or be working towards this.

>With knowledge of the Transmission network and its unique and complex technical challenges, you will be skilled in Transmission Primary or Secondary systems, Transmission operational environments, and with industry Health & Safety requirements.

Possessing experience of Transmission system assets such as Construction, Operations, working practices and systems, you will hold specialist knowledge in substation plant, auxiliaries and/or transformers & reactors.

With knowledge and experience of industry codes, standards, its structure and the separate roles of Electricity System Operator (ESO), Transmission Owner (TO), Distribution Network Operator (DNO), Transmission network design principles and regulatory frameworks impacting on SP Energy Networks, you will be aware of commercial issues related to Distribution and Transmission networks, financial policies and procedures, organisational strategic aims and targets and international activities in power systems operations.

As a good communicator with the ability to write clear reports and present complex technical matters to a non‑technical audience, you will bring a track record of excellent customer service and an ability to meet/exceed customer expectations.
