To work in the United Kingdom, an individual must have the relevant permission to work in the country. This permission is granted by the UK Visa and Immigration Service. As part of the pre‑employment checks, NHS Scotland Boards will check entitlement to work in the UK. The entitlement can be evidenced through specific types of visa, EU settled status or pre‑settled status. If you do not have the necessary eligibility, it may be possible – though not guaranteed – to secure sponsorship via a UK Skilled Worker/Health & Care Worker Visa, provided the employer is a licensed sponsor and the post meets the current minimum salary threshold or ‘going rate’. It is essential that you confirm you either already have an appropriate right to work in the UK or that the post would be eligible to be sponsored before submitting your application.
