Job description
KITCHEN PORTER

Average of 40 hours per week worked over 5 days out of 7 across a 3-week rota, including evenings and weekends. Split shifts may be required. Term Time 33 weeks plus 7 weeks during holidays.

The role:

Harrow School’s team of Kitchen Porters have the vital role of ensuring the various School kitchens are always clean, organised and tidy and that correct hygiene standards are observed. You will assist with unloading kitchen deliveries, washing kitchen pans/utensils restaurant cutlery/crockery etc., moving and cleaning heavy kitchen equipment and operating using careful use of kitchen chemicals and manual handling techniques. There is also the opportunity to help the Catering Assistants to deliver a smooth catering experience to our staff and customers. The skills:

You will have previous experience as a Kitchen Porter, being used to a busy workplace and using your good communication skills so that you can work safely and support your colleagues. You will have high standards of personal presentation, and pride yourself on providing a clean, safe and well organised kitchen for your colleagues to operate within. A good working knowledge of the English language is necessary to follow important health and safety guidelines.

The environment:

Harrow School is situated within a beautiful site in Harrow on the Hill, northwest London, and is one of the best-known schools in the world. Around 840 boys study at Harrow and live in the School’s 12 boarding houses. The School’s Catering Department produces over 3,000 meals per day during term time and over 25,000 packed meals per year and all kitchens are modern and extremely well equipped. The Catering Department works closely with Harrow School Enterprises Limited (HSEL), the School’s trading arm, and provides catering and hospitality services for Easter revision courses, residential summer schools and events including conferences, dinners, afternoon teas and wedding receptions.
