We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Deerbolt, working as a Joinery Teacher. This role is offered on a permanent full-time basis, working 37 hours per week.

Site Information

HMP Deerbolt is a Category C, Training Prison for Adult Males located near Barnard Castle, County Durham. The prison provides educational programs, vocational training, workshops, healthcare services, and sports facilities. These initiatives are geared towards equipping inmates with skills and support for reintegration into society.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need to:

  • Teaching qualification and where applicable, relevant subject specialist qualification - with a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months
  • Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
  • Level 1 Diploma in carpentry and Joinery and Level 2 Diploma in Site Carpentry.
  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)/ Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) or commit to work towards within a specified timeframe (Applies to Teachers in YOI only)
  • Creating stimulating, vibrant environments which are conducive to learning and motivational for learners
  • Achievement of quality targets
  • Producing accurate and timely reports
