Job summary

A specialist equipment manufacturer in Portsmouth is seeking a Trade and Compliance Officer. The ideal candidate will manage Import and Export compliance and documentation, ensuring adherence to legislation and assisting Project Managers with timely deliveries. Applicants should possess at least 5 years of relevant experience in the field, and have strong knowledge of ITAR/EAR compliance. CMS2 is a specialist equipment manufacturer supplying maritime atmosphere control systems and support services. CMS2 are experts in enabling high availability atmosphere management systems to generate breathable air for submariners, allowing boats to remain underwater for long periods of time. We do this by combining over sixty years of expertise with the latest technology and processes to design, build and support high quality systems and solutions.

We are looking for a Trade and Compliance Officer to join the team.

Reporting into the Group CISO, acting as a subject matter expert carrying out all necessary Import & Export admimistrative activities for the purchasing department including: document filing (hard & soft copy), scanning of documentation, processing international shipping and logistics requirements and project support; all in accordance with the objectives specified in the Company’s standard procedures for Import and Export.

Key Responsibilities

Adhere to Import and Export compliance to ensure that the awareness level of import/export compliance matters is raised and maintained across the company, managing Import and Export legislation and reporting back to the business as and when legislation is updated.

Key responsibilities and tasks:

  • Maintaining the integrity of Import and Export records; documents, files; highlighting any deviations from relevant procedures to relevant parties.
  • Management of documentation including licences and consignee undertakings related to Import and Export projects.
  • Support into the Project Managers updating the relevant internal customers to ensure timely delivery of goods and services.
  • Monitor and Maintain record of Commodity Codes, CECCs and ECCNs
  • In conjunction with the Quality Department support the Maintenance of any Import and Export NCR records
  • Participate in Continuous improvement activities within the department and where required, company-wide.
  • Ensure Import and Export Compliance including Inward Processing (IP)
  • Experience of ITAR/EAR US and UK Compliance
  • Coordinating and controlling dedicated UK Shipments and management of UK courier contracts
  • Liaison with couriers and shipping agents on all Import and Export matters
  • Check and manage MSS data (Customs Data) on a monthly basis, and check any errors are promptly dealt with
  • Recording all Import and Export movements to be Audit Ready
  • Lead and manage any HMRC and Export Control organisation audits

General activities

  • Provide a professional backup service for colleagues during peak times or during absence, especially in the Information Security Department.
  • Follow company procedures, standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain continuous professional development to ensure knowledge is up to date.
  • Act as an ambassador for the company in all interactions with customers and the public.

Role travel requirements

  • Some travel to other Science Group group offices in the UK may occasionally be required.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential

  • At least 5 years’ experience an Import and Export environment, preferable within Defence
  • Prepares documents and forms to move goods efficiently through import and export steps and procedures.
  • Review paperwork and documents to ensure shipping, handling, storage charges, and customs fees are billed correctly.
  • Maintain a database that tracks merchandise, Processes claims on merchandise shortages and overages.
  • Contact with Import/Export Agencies and dealing with Import/Export Certifications
  • Experience and Knowledge of UK Export compliance legislation
  • Experience and Knowledge of ITAR/EAR compliance requirements
  • Experience and Knowledge of UK import processes
  • Experience and Knowledge of improving work processes

Requirements
  • Candidates must have an existing right to live and work in the UK
  • Candidates must have passed UK security clearance to Security Check level or be able to obtain this level.
  • To gain SC clearance you will normally have had to have been a resident in the UK for a minimum of 5 years.
