Overview

HR Manager (full-time or part-time) at Base Materials. Part-time role would need to be a minimum of 30 hours per week across 4 days. Up to £50k per annum, salary negotiable depending on experience. 33 days holiday, contributory pension, healthcare cash plan. Flexible start/finish times. Location: Whetstone, Leicester (LE8 6NU) – hybrid working with regular visits to Frankley (B45).

Base Materials Ltd is a chemical engineering business with sites in Whetstone and Frankley. We manufacture styling, modelling and tooling materials for high-quality precision moulds, master models, jigs and fixtures for automotive, aerospace, motor sport, marine and other industries.

We are expanding our HR function and seek an experienced Human Resources Manager (HR Generalist) able to handle day-to-day HR issues and contribute strategically. You will work alongside an HR Officer and an Independent HR Consultant who mentors the team.

Responsibilities
  • Provide daily direction, mentoring, and professional development to the HR Officer; review work quality and ensure compliant HR outputs.
  • Oversee and quality-check HR correspondence, documentation, and advice before issue to ensure legal and professional standards are met.
  • Act as first point of escalation for complex or sensitive HR queries, investigations, or disputes.
  • Align HR activity with business strategy, risk management, and workforce planning.
  • Maintain, develop, and implement HR policies and procedures; ensure compliance with employment law and best practice.
  • Partner with senior leaders to design and deliver HR initiatives supporting performance, culture, and engagement.
  • Lead continuous improvement of HR systems, processes, and reporting (data accuracy, metrics, KPI reporting such as absence, turnover, ER cases, training compliance).
  • Manage HR audit and compliance readiness for ISO or similar quality frameworks.
  • Provide expert advice and coaching to managers on employee relations; lead or support complex ER cases and review officer-provided documentation.
  • Identify and mitigate people-related risks through proactive case management and early intervention.
  • Oversee recruitment and onboarding processes; ensure inclusive, compliant, and effective attraction strategies.
  • Develop and deliver management capability training on key topics (investigations, attendance management, performance conversations, etc.).
  • Manage HRIS integrity and reporting functionality (PeopleHR).
Qualifications
  • Experience in Employee Relations and Employment Legislation; able to handle confidential matters and juggle multiple priorities including direct line management.
  • Experience in an SME manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Minimum CIPD Level 7 (or equivalent) preferred; experience with PeopleHR is advantageous.
