A leading logistics company in Scotland is seeking an ambitious individual for a Modern Apprenticeship in Driving Goods Vehicles. This position offers the opportunity to obtain a fully funded Class 1 licence through hands-on experience and training. Responsibilities include assisting HGV drivers, washing vehicles, and learning essential driving skills. The apprenticeship is expected to take 6-12 months, during which full PPE and training will be provided along with various benefits such as life assurance and an employer contributory pension scheme.
Ferguson Transport & Shipping is seeking an ambitious individual to join a Modern Apprenticeship in Driving Goods Vehicles.
This is your opportunity to build an exciting career in transportation by achieving a fully‑funded Class 1 licence with one of the largest general haulage businesses in the Highlands & Islands of Scotland.
The successful applicant will work alongside our current team whilst completing a Modern Apprenticeship in Driving Goods Vehicles.
Duties will initially include washing lorries, trailers and other plant. Then progressing on to work with our Shunter Operators, learning forklift operations, trailer movements and general yard duties. As a Shunter Operator, you will drive works vehicles with a variety of attachments; ensure safe and secure loading and unloading of HGV trailers; assist HGV Drivers; and move trailers around site using Terberg unit, keeping the yards and loading areas functioning efficiently. This will ensure that the essential skills for becoming an HGV Driver are established early on and it will allow you to gain an insight to what will be required as an HGV Driver.
Following a period of shunting duties, training will begin for the Modern Apprenticeship. During which support will be given to obtain the required HGV medical, provisional licence and theory tests.
This is a progressive training position where a car licence is required. It is expected to take around 6-12 months to complete before moving on to the role of HGV Driver.
Full PPE and workwear is provided, along with on‑the‑job training which can open the door to a range of future job opportunities.
Full training will be provided in all activities, including Terberg Tug Works Vehicle Operation and the safe operation of a forklift truck.
