Job description


We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated GP to join our team.

To provide support to the whole clinical team. To undertake health promotion and certain clinical activity such as BP monitoring, INR’s and new patient checks under the direction of qualified nurses and GP’s. To participate in providing care for patients registered at Larwood Health Partnership.

Dimensions:

Working as part of the Primary Health Care Team and in partnership with other agencies.

The Practice currently offers extended hours which you may be required to work.

Principle Accountabilities:

  • Participate with nursing team to provide continuity of care for nursing procedures, screening and health promotion
  • To carry out phlebotomy
  • To assist GP’s in minor surgery and contraceptive procedures
  • Perform ECG’s and blood pressures and to apply & remove 24 hour Ambulatory blood pressure machines
  • To perform Tele Dermatology and understand IT software
  • To act as chaperone as per protocol to GP’s and nurses as required
  • To maintain simple dressings under supervision of Practice Nurse
  • To undertake removal of sutures and staples and basic wound care
  • To participate in vaccination programmes under the direction of a patient specific directive (PSD)
  • To recall patients as instructed
  • To take charge of stock control in liaison with nurse administrator
  • To ensure that all treatment areas and consulting rooms are stocked with correct equipment and dressings etc.
  • To be accountable for maintaining accurate records both manually and on IT systems, ensuring confidentiality always
  • To remain up to date on mandatory training (both clinical and non-clinical)
  • Undertake Accredited: Healthcare Certificate
  • To agree to attend training and development opportunities in order to develop and enhance the role.
  • Promote and apply all H&S policies including Infection control.
  • To be responsible in safe handling of specimens and clinical waste and sharps disposal
  • Training, supervision and observation of new starters

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Carry out any other duties relevant to the role

In the course of seeking treatment, patients entrust us with, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters. They do so in confidence and have the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately.

In the performance of the duties outlined in this Job Description, the post-holder will have access to confidential information relating to patients and their carers, Practice staff and other healthcare workers. They may also have access to information relating to the Practice as a business organisation. All such information from any source is to be regarded as strictly confidential.

Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the Practice may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the Practice policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data.

Health & Safety:

The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others’ health, safety and security as defined in the Practice Health & Safety Policy, to include:

  • Using personal security systems within the workplace according to Practice guidelines
  • Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks
  • Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills
  • All staff providing direct patient care must ensure that they follow procedures aimed at reducing the risk of passing on the organisms that can cause infections. All staff, collectively and individually, have a duty of care in following best practice in adherence to guidelines which is a fundamental requirement in underpinning the management of Infection Control. This includes using appropriate infection control procedures and maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards
