Health Centre Manager

Salary: £45,000 per annum
Contract: 37.5 hours per week, term-time only plus 4 weeks
Reporting to: Deputy Head (Pastoral)
Location: Cambridge (across multiple school sites)

About the Role

Cambridge Central Services is seeking an experienced, compassionate and strategic Health Centre Manager to lead and develop medical provision across three highly regarded educational settings. This is a senior, hands‑on role combining clinical practice, leadership and strategic oversight, ensuring outstanding healthcare for students and staff.

The successful candidate will act as the professional lead for all medical matters, providing expert advice to senior leaders, managing Health Centre staff, and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, professional standards and best practice across all sites

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead, manage and quality assure medical provision across all three schools.
  • Act as the professional authority on all health and medical matters.
  • Develop and implement healthcare policies, procedures and strategic plans.
  • Ensure compliance with Boarding Schools National Minimum Standards and other relevant legislation.
  • Advise senior leaders on best practice in student health, wellbeing and safeguarding.

Clinical Care

  • Provide high-quality medical care, including daily student clinics and emergency treatment.
  • Oversee health care plans for students with complex or long-term conditions.
  • Lead health promotion, screening and education initiatives.
  • Manage infection control procedures and student travel health requirements.

People Management

  • Line manage Health Centre staff, including recruitment, induction, appraisals and rotas.
  • Support staff professional development, statutory training and NMC revalidation.
  • Foster a supportive, high-performing and compassionate team culture.

Information & Systems

  • Oversee confidential medical records and lead the transition to secure digital systems.
  • Ensure accurate data collection, reporting and communication with parents, staff and external agencies.

Financial & Operational Management

  • Manage the Health Centre budget and resources.
  • Procure and maintain medical equipment, supplies and medicines.
  • Conduct audits and provide reports to senior leaders and governors.
Person Specification

Essential

  • Registered nurse with a recognised professional nursing qualification.
  • Minimum of 12 months post-registration experience.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with young people, parents and professionals.
  • Thorough understanding of safeguarding and promoting young people’s welfare.
  • Confident use of IT and medical data systems.
  • Calm, caring and solution-focused approach.

Desirable

  • Experience working in a school or educational setting.
  • Practice nursing or experience with children, adolescents or young adults.
  • Experience working with regulatory bodies and inspections.
  • Mental health, sexual health or counselling qualifications.
  • First Aid qualification.
