A cutting-edge engineering firm in the UK is looking for a Graduate Mechanical Engineer to join their Electromechanical Design Team. This role involves designing and developing innovative subsea equipment, contributing from concept design to production support. The ideal candidate will have a BEng in Mechanical Engineering and CAD skills, particularly in Autodesk Inventor. You will gain hands-on experience and work in a collaborative environment focusing on high-quality outputs.
From the Mariana Trench, the deepest point on earth, to surging shorelines and anywhere in‑between, we make the impossible possible through our continuous passion for innovation.
Our people design, engineer and manufacture technologies that are enabling our customers to discover, navigate, measure, detect and communicate in the toughest environment on earth: Our oceans. We’ve been actively developing the technology to make the oceans accessible for over 50 years and we’re only just getting started… At Sonardyne, we value different ways of thinking. Whether you think in code, patterns, systems, or steps, your unique perspective is important to us.
We’re looking for a passionate Graduate Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic Electromechanical Design Team. This is an exciting opportunity to kick‑start your engineering career by contributing to the design and development of innovative subsea equipment used in some of the world’s most challenging environments.
As part of our Engineering Department, you’ll gain hands‑on experience across the full product lifecycle—from concept design and prototype development to testing and production support. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers, helping to create CAD models, assemblies, and detailed drawings, while learning how these feed into real‑world manufacturing and testing processes.
Supporting the design and development of mechanical components for new prototypes and existing products.
Producing detailed 3D CAD models, piece part and assembly drawings, wiring diagrams, and PCB assembly drawings.
Participating in mechanical compliance and environmental testing (pressure, temperature, vibration, load, etc.).
Conducting experiments to evaluate performance of electro‑mechanical and acoustic transducer designs.
Gaining experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to validate design integrity.
Assisting with product documentation, including test procedures, specifications, and assembly drawings.
Liaising with suppliers and internal teams on materials, manufacturability, and cost considerations.
Providing progress updates to project and product managers.
We’re seeking a motivated and curious engineer who thrives in a hands‑on environment. You’ll be someone who enjoys solving problems, pays attention to detail, and takes pride in delivering high‑quality work.
BEng (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering.
Intermediate 3D CAD skills (preferably Autodesk Inventor).
Practical mechanical skills, including prototype assembly and testing.
Strong computer literacy, especially Microsoft Office.
Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem‑solving skills.
A proactive and adaptable mindset with strong attention to detail.
Experience with standard lab testing equipment (Scopes, DVMs, etc.).
Report writing and documentation skills.
Be part of a forward‑thinking engineering team developing cutting‑edge subsea technologies.
Gain exposure to all aspects of product development—from concept to testing.
Learn from experienced professionals in a supportive and collaborative environment.
Opportunity to travel occasionally to our Plymouth Trials and Training Facility to support product development.
