Qualifications

Our Geotechnical Engineers apply their specialist skills to buildings and infrastructure projects across the globe, covering transport, energy, water, resources, waste, land development, education, sports and leisure facilities, government/commercial and industrial buildings. As one of the world's leading building and infrastructure design consultancies, we deliver projects on time, on budget and sustainably.

The Opportunity

We are looking for enthusiastic graduates to join our Ground Engineering teams across our UK offices. From day one you will work within a multidisciplinary office alongside experienced professionals, gaining a strong base in ground engineering and the chance to specialise in areas such as numerical modelling, seismic, risk, resilience or sustainability.

You will help deliver professional services for high‑profile clients, taking on increasing responsibility as you progress. The role involves desk studies, ground investigation, analysis & design, carbon management, construction supervision, monitoring and asset management.

Locations: Birmingham, Nottingham, London, Leeds, Sheffield, Cardiff, Southampton, Bristol, Belfast and Newcastle.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with desk studies, ground investigation, and data analysis.
  • Develop and review geotechnical designs and reports.
  • Support construction supervision and monitoring activities.
  • Collaborate with multi‑disciplinary project teams and other Arup disciplines.
  • Contribute to carbon management and sustainability initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology or a related subject, 2.1 or above (predicted or attained).
  • Master's degree or postgraduate qualification in Geotechnics, Soil Mechanics, Seismic Engineering or related subject is desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of soil mechanics and soil‑structure interaction.
  • Understanding of sustainable development principles.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork and analytical skills.
  • Initiative, proactiveness and willingness to improve existing practices.
  • Knowledge of Eurocodes application in geotechnical and structural design.
  • Ability to learn new technical and engineering software, including 3D design and digital automation.
  • Experience with coding, finite element software or digital design is beneficial.
  • Willingly pursue a speciality through postgraduate or PhD studies.
