Girls Softball Coach - Varsity Assistant

General Definition Of Work: An athletic coach / activities advisor coaches, supervises, manages, coordinates, and plans all practices pre‑season, in‑season, and post‑season. The coach is also responsible for coaching / advising, supervising, and managing all athletic and activity competitions, and oversees the extracurricular programs, athletics, activities, transportation, and related facility operations for grades 6‑12. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Activities Director.

Essential Functions
  • Learns and adheres to the coaching / advising philosophy and program of the district as directed by the Activities Director.
  • Assists in explaining and distributing literature to all athletes concerning athletic commitment and protection of student eligibility.
  • Teaches athletes the fundamental skills, theory, and strategy of the sport.
  • Teaches athletes the value of good conduct, sportsmanship, and good citizenship.
  • Provides supervision of athletes at all times and applies discipline when needed.
  • Teaches and emphasizes safe procedures to the athletes.
  • Leads or assists other coaches and advisors with out‑of‑season training as needed.
  • Attends and/or conducts awards programs.
  • Assists in the responsibility of the care of equipment and facilities being used.
  • Assists in the issuance, return, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Assists in ensuring that all equipment is cleaned, repaired, and stored properly at the ends of the season.
  • Makes recommendations to the Activities Director regarding needed equipment and repairs to facilities.
  • Other duties as assigned and appropriate.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Thorough knowledge of the Minnesota State High School League website, handbooks, and calendars; general knowledge of the Minnesota Department of Education website, Infinite Campus software, and Impact Test Online; thorough knowledge of the district website and Infinite Campus reports; knowledge of standard office equipment. Ability to perform arithmetic computations, compute rates and percentages, and establish effective relationships with co‑workers, students, parents, and elected officials.

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Current district staff member preferred but not required.
  • Teaching and coaching license preferred but not required.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements
  • Occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force.
  • Regularly sits, speaks, hears, and uses hands to finger, handle, or feel; occasionally stands and walks.
  • Requires close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color perception, and peripheral vision.
  • Vocal communication required for expressing ideas verbally.
  • Hearing required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
  • Prepares and analyzes written or computer data.
  • No exposure to environmental conditions; work generally in a moderately noisy location.
Special Requirements
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Current Head Coaching license through MDE or willingness to obtain one for the position.
Wage

$3,145 – $3,708 per season, dependent on experience.
