Geotechnical Site Technicians / Dynamic Sample Drillers

Location: Stamford

Contract: Permanent

Salary: £25,000 - £35,000 per year (dependant on experience)

We are AF Howland Associates Limited (AFHA), a well-established geotechnical and geo-environmental consultancy with offices across England. Our head office is in Norwich, with a subsidiary in Long Melford, and we are opening new offices in Romford (London) and near Stamford, Lincolnshire this year. We operate nationally on infrastructure, utilities frameworks, and small to large developments on greenfield and brownfield sites.

We specialise in providing data for engineering projects from the initial ground investigation through to reviewing ground parameters for schemes. This includes installation of geotechnical and environmental instrumentation for monitoring civil engineering and infrastructure works, ground gas and water quality assessments, and trenchless construction expertise. We have developed our own industry approved software (GEODASY) for geotechnical data processing.

About the Role

Vacancies have become available within our fieldwork team in our Central office near Stamford Lincolnshire. We are seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals to join our team, with roles available for Geotechnical Site Technicians and Dynamic Sampling/Window Sampling Drillers.

The successful candidates will undertake a diverse range of site based in-situ testing. It is expected that you would have general site experience (CSCS) and that you are able to demonstrate aptitude for learning new field test procedures and some office duties.

The role will be diverse and will require an interest in geotechnical fieldwork. The fieldwork activities will require lone working and a personal pride in your work; a high degree of reliability and trustworthiness are vital attributes. An ability to self-manage is also seen as a necessary feature of the role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake a diverse range of site based in-situ testing
  • Conduct Plate Load Tests
  • Perform CBR determinations using a variety of equipment
  • Carry out groundwater sampling and gas monitoring
  • Perform soakaway/infiltration testing
  • Operate dynamic sampling/probing using a mini tracked drilling rig
  • Demonstrate aptitude for learning new field test procedures and some office duties
  • Work with a high degree of reliability and trustworthiness during lone working
  • Self-manage workload and demonstrate personal pride in work quality
  • Assist with other aspects of the business as may be required

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential Requirements:

  • General site experience with CSCS certification
  • Demonstrable aptitude for learning new field test procedures
  • High degree of reliability and trustworthiness
  • Ability to self-manage
  • Interest in geotechnical fieldwork

Desirable:

  • Prior experience with in-situ soil testing
  • Level 2 NVQ in land drilling
  • Ability to tow a trailer (B+E licence)

Salary and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary of £25,000 - £35,000 depending upon experience and provide benefits including:
