Job description

The Fire Safety Advisor will be part of a national team which sets and assesses the standards for fire safety compliance across our buildings. There will be clear responsibilities for fire safety on behalf of NHSPS as a Landlord. The Fire Safety Advisors will undertake Fire Risk Assessments to be able to demonstrate that fire precautions within our buildings are complete and functioning and will support the planned evacuation of relevant persons, including Tenants in the event of a fire.

Main duties of the job
  • Conduct Building Fire Risk Assessments on a planned basis across the area of responsibility to a defined compliance programme.
  • Proactively promote fire safety within NHS PS and with our customer base.
  • Undertake visual inspections to ensure that all compartment lines remain intact in our buildings, including ad hoc inspections following work that has been undertaken by our Hard FM, Digital & Data teams or tenants' activity.
  • Support projects by identifying / defining fire compartment lines and signing off works in principle.
  • Support national and regional projects on an ad hoc basis where required.
  • Attend pre‑start meetings for projects – either NHSPS or client projects (where appropriate) to ensure that fire safety precautions are in place for the project and that the correct passive fire precautions are included the areas for renovation / rebuild.
  • Support the design and implementation of all fire related permits to work, taking on the role of authoriser.
  • Issue relevant Permit to Work (i.e. permit to breach).
  • Provide fire permit training to teams within area of responsibility.
  • Undertake a key role in investigating any fires in buildings within their area of responsibility.
  • Receive fire incident reports and liaise with tenants where there are hot spots of fire activations.

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Fire Safety Advisor to join our team, covering the East Midlands on a permanent contract. The salary starts from £49,000 with a £3,000 car allowance and 10 % performance based bonus. About the role: We are looking for a proactive and adaptable Fire Safety Advisor to join our estates team, supporting a diverse and complex portfolio predominantly across Leicester, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire. You can be based anywhere in the region, with regular travel to sites. You’ll be responsible for delivering fire risk assessments (Tier 2 & 3), advising on fire safety matters, and working closely with the Senior Estates Manager, Senior Fire Specialist Advisor and customers. This is a highly customer‑facing role, requiring excellent communication and engagement skills.

  • Conduct fire risk assessments and ensure compliance across a varied estate.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the Senior Estates Manager and site teams.
  • Engage with a wide range of customers and stakeholders, adapting to different settings and needs.
  • Support fire safety training, incident investigations, and improvement initiatives.

Qualifications
  • Minimum Level 3 Fire Risk Assessment qualification.
  • Excellent communicator, able to build relationships and influence at all levels.
  • Experience in fire safety within complex, multi‑site environments.
  • Excellent time management and adaptability.
Experience
  • Experience of managing fire safety across a large portfolio of properties.
  • Experience of the application of technical fire safety principles.
  • Significant experience of influencing key stakeholders.
  • Proven experience of developing strong and effective relationships with a range of stakeholders both internally and externally.
  • Experience of liaising and interfacing with regulatory authorities.
  • Experience of producing high quality reports and presentations.
  • Use of a range of techniques and best practice covering such things as fire risk assessments / audits and fire investigations.
