Overview

Our client, a well-established organization within the cargo, freight forwarding, and logistics sector, is seeking an experienced Financial Accountant to oversee the day-to-day operations of their busy accounts department. This is a key leadership role managing a team of up to 10 staff and ensuring the efficient delivery of all finance functions. The ideal candidate will be highly organised, detail‑focused, and confident in a fast‑paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the smooth running of the accounts department, providing leadership to a team of up to 10 staff.
• Manage accounts payable and receivable functions, including sales ledger, billing, and credit control.
• Prepare and review bank reconciliations and duty VAT reconciliations.
• Complete and submit VAT returns.
• Oversee credit checks and risk assessments for new UK and overseas clients.
• Liaise with senior management and external accountants when required.
• Supervise the processing of sales and purchase invoices.
• Handle and resolve financial queries efficiently.
• Produce regular financial reports, including P&L statements, aged debtor reports, budgets, and payroll.
• Provide regular updates and insights to the senior management team.

Candidate Requirements

• Proven experience across all aspects of accounts and finance.
• Previous managerial or supervisory experience is essential.
• Background in cargo, freight forwarding, or logistics is highly desirable.
• AAT qualification or equivalent.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Sage 50, ASM, and BoxTop.
• Self‑motivated, proactive, and able to work independently.
• Excellent attention to detail with strong organisational skills.
