We’re looking for a Finance Manager to join our growing finance team, working alongside the Head of Finance and our CFO. You will play a pivotal role in driving our finance strategy, supporting the business to scale safely and ambitiously. You will be a technical specialist and a strong business partner, owning the financial reporting and control as well as finance operations of Octopus Money group entities.

About Octopus Money 🐙

We’re on a mission to help 5 million people feel confident about their money.

Money shapes every part of life, yet most people never get the support they need:

  • Half of Brits reach retirement age without enough to live the life they want.
  • Financial stress is a leading cause of poor mental health.
  • Only 8% of people have access to 1-to-1 financial advice.

Octopus Money brings together financial planning, investment expertise, and smart technology so people can understand their options and take action with confidence. We help people build clear plans for their savings, investments, and pensions, adapting our service to what each person needs—whether that’s regulated advice, coaching, or both.

The Role and Opportunity

As our Finance Manager, you are asked to challenge the status quo, take ownership of and strengthen financial reporting and control and finance operations, and execute brilliantly to support the next stage of growth. You have a unique opportunity to shape our finance strategy from the ground up to drive financial excellence across the Group.

Your primary focus will be taking full ownership of financial reporting and control for all group entities with robust regulatory compliance, ensuring that our finance operations run smoothly supported by our outsourced bookkeeping function, and supporting ad hoc projects such as corporate reorganisations and acquisitions.

Day to day:

  • A technical specialist: You are a trusted specialist driving design and execution of finance and tax strategies including corporate restructuring.
  • Stakeholder partnering: You’ll provide vital insights to leadership and board, working cross-functionally and collaboratively to deliver business objectives.
  • Driving reporting excellence: You own with clarity and confidence, on all internal management and governance reporting as well as external statutory and regulatory reporting with the FCA and HMRC, all the while ensuring data accuracy and staying ahead of submission deadlines.
  • Owning group audit & tax delivery: You own the relationship with external auditors and tax advisors and full delivery of group audit and tax reporting ensuring a smooth and efficient process and clean audit opinions.
  • Robust and scalable control environment: You are the architect of our processes & controls, ensuring they stay fit for purpose and continue to strengthen as we scale, championing smart technology solutions.
  • Owning group management accounts: You own the monthly reporting including consolidation and variance analysis, completing by working day 4.
  • Owning daily finance operations: You oversee the outsourced bookkeeping function, manage all operations whilst driving relentless automation.
About You

We value people who Own It and Move with Urgency and Focus. You thrive in a high-performing culture, take full ownership and are proud of your work. You are fast paced and result-driven, curious and love solving problems. You hold a high bar, are open to feedback and generous with your contributions.

What we’re looking for:

  • Qualified accountant: You are ACA or ACCA qualified with 3+ years of PQE.
  • Financial services: You have experience in a regulated environment, with exposure to FCA reporting requirements.
  • Technical excellence: You have a deep understanding of UK GAAP and IFRS, with a track record of preparing complex financial statements and group consolidations.
  • Bias towards action: You enjoy "rolling up your sleeves" to get things done and are comfortable in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Clear communicator: You can translate complex technical accounting issues into clear guidance for non-finance stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented: You have a passion for accuracy and getting things "right first time".
The Interview Process

We’ll keep it simple and respectful of your time:

  • Intro call with our talent team.
  • Interview with HoF/CFO.
  • Case study.
  • Interview with CEO.
What’s in it for you
  • Salary: £65,000 – £75,000 yearly base salary + benefits.
  • Ownership: Benefit from the Octopus Group share incentive plan.
  • Flexibility: Hybrid working with 2 days at home each week (Monday and Friday).
  • Time to recharge: 18 days a year working from anywhere (for non-regulated roles) and your birthday off.
  • Support for life: Private medical insurance, enhanced parental leave, and a company pension.
