Job summary

A leading technology company in Portsmouth is seeking Field Support Engineers to provide technical support for naval communications equipment. Successful candidates will have significant experience with naval technologies and work as subject matter experts on various equipment. Qualifications

  • Significant experience of working with naval equipment of similar technology.
  • Highly experienced in Naval communications equipment.
  • Significant Network / IT experience with Naval platforms.
  • Strong technical background.
  • Experienced in maintenance and fault finding with High Frequency (HF) and Very High Frequency (VHF) technology.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and assistance at nominated locations.
  • Respond to technical queries, acting as a single point of contact.
  • Log technical queries on the appropriate database as required.
  • Coordinate technical investigations, liaising with external agencies.
  • Liaise directly with the User/Customer regarding schedule issues.
  • Be the Subject Matter Expert for the allocated equipment.
  • Work to minimise wrong diagnosis and needless return of equipment.

Field Support Engineers – Portsmouth

Thales is the principal provider of secure communications equipment, support and expertise to the Royal Navy, having supplied the guardians of the sea with critical communications equipment for over 60 years. We have the largest installed base of integrated maritime naval communications capability in the UK, creating a highly sophisticated communication network throughout the Royal Navy fleet, which guarantees their secure exchange of mission‑critical information anywhere in the world.

You will provide technical support and assistance at nominated locations. This assistance may be purely advisory, a full maintenance activity or a mixture of both.

Working hours

Monday to Thursday 08:00am till 16:30pm, Friday 08:00am till 13:00pm.

What will you deliver?
  • Respond to technical queries, acting as a single point of contact for the User community.
  • Log technical queries on the appropriate database as required.
  • Co‑ordinate on‑base technical investigations, liaising with external agencies and other Operating Bases as required.
  • Liaise directly with the User/Customer with respect to technical schedule issues.
  • Be the Subject Matter Expert for the allocated equipment.
  • Work with the User/Maintainer to minimise wrong diagnosis and needless return of equipment/LRUs.
  • Work with or as the maintainer to ensure a high standard of incident/fault data.
Who are we looking for?
  • Significant experience of working with naval equipment of similar technology.
  • Highly experienced in Naval communications equipment.
  • Significant Network / IT experience with Naval platforms.
  • Strong technical background.
  • Experienced in maintenance and fault finding with High Frequency (HF) and Very High Frequency (VHF) technology.

This role will require SC Clearance. It would be advantageous if currently held, however, if not currently held, it is a requirement that the successful applicant will undergo, achieve, and maintain SC Clearance. Please visit the UKSV website for further guidance.
