Job summary

A leading IT services firm is seeking a technician for a field-based role in Chelmsford. Responsibilities include providing support for printers and laptops and delivering desk side support for Windows systems. Candidates must have a valid UK driving licence and the ability to work variable hours. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills are essential. This is a 6-month rolling contract offering flexibility and varied location work.

Qualifications

  • Full UK driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points.
  • Legal right to work in the UK.
  • No restrictions for UK Security Clearance.
  • Flexibility for variable start and finish times.

Responsibilities

  • Provide break/fix support for printers, MFPs, laptops, and desktops.
  • Diagnose and repair devices to board level.
  • Deliver Level 1 desk side support for Windows-based systems.
  • Perform hands-and-feet network support.
  • Maintain accurate records of work completed.
  • Ensure excellent customer service.

6 month rolling contract

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide break/fix support for printers, MFPs, laptops, desktops, and associated hardware.
  • Diagnose and repair devices to board level with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Deliver Level 1 desk side support for Windows-based systems.
  • Perform hands-and-feet network support, including troubleshooting connectivity issues, replacing equipment, and assisting remote teams with escalations.
  • Maintain accurate records of work completed, parts used, and updates in service systems.
  • Ensure excellent customer service and communication at all times.
  • Travel to various customer locations across the UK as required.
Must Haves
  • Full UK driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points.
  • Legal right to work in the UK.
  • No restrictions that would preclude gaining UK Security Clearance (SC).
  • Flexibility to work variable start and finish times depending on business needs.
Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience as a printer and MFP engineer, including repair to board level.
  • Demonstrated ability to repair laptops and desktops to board level; vendor certifications highly advantageous (e.g., Lenovo, HP, Dell).
  • Hands‑on experience providing desk side support (L1) for Windows environments.
  • Experience with hands‑and‑feet network support, including replacing switches, patching, and hardware swaps.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent communication and customer‑facing skills.
Desirable
  • Vendor certifications (Lenovo, HP, Dell, Canon, Ricoh, etc.).
  • Experience working in field service roles covering multiple customer sites.
