Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Fibre Technician / Network Cabling Engineer to support ongoing fibre installation, splicing, and network infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience in fibre splicing, cable termination, cable pulling, pole climbing, underground work, and troubleshooting network connectivity issues. This role involves working across multiple sites and ensuring all tasks are completed safely, accurately, and to industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform fibre optic splicing using mechanical and fusion splicing techniques.
- Terminate fibre and copper network cables with precision and according to technical specifications.
- Conduct OTDR, power meter, and light source testing to verify signal strength and quality.
- Identify faults, verify continuity, and validate the performance of fibre connections.
- Install, route, and secure fibre optic and network cabling in both indoor and outdoor environments.
- Carry out structured cabling work including cable pulling, containment installation, tray work, and cabinet setup.
- Perform TRR (Test, Repair, Replace) tasks as needed to maintain network integrity.
- Climb poles and work at heights following safety protocols.
- Conduct underground cabling activities including ducting, pulling ropes, jointing, and chamber work.
Troubleshooting & Support
- Diagnose and resolve fibre and network connectivity issues using appropriate testing tools and techniques.
- Respond to field issues efficiently, ensuring minimum downtime and service impact.
- Produce clear and accurate documentation for all work performed, including test results and daily reports.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure all work complies with industry standards, company procedures, and safety regulations.
- Maintain high-quality workmanship and adhere to project specifications and client requirements.
- Follow all health and safety guidelines, including PPE usage and risk assessments.
Coordination & Communication
- Collaborate effectively with engineers, supervisors, and project managers to meet project deadlines.
- Communicate progress, challenges, and requirements in a timely manner.
- Support team members and contribute to a safe and productive working environment.
Requirements
- Proven experience in fibre splicing, fibre termination, and fibre testing.
- Strong knowledge of network cabling, including installation and routing of fibre and copper cables.
- Skilled in cable pulling, TRR tasks, pole climbing, and underground cabling operations.
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot network connectivity and fibre issues independently.
- Understanding of OTDR, power meter, and other testing equipment.
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality and safety.
Accreditations & Certifications
- Must hold relevant industry accreditations (e.g., NRSWA, SA002, SA001, NOPS, PIA Accreditation, or equivalent).
- Health & Safety certifications are an advantage.
Other Requirements
- Valid Manual UK Driving Licence (mandatory).
- Willingness to work in varying outdoor conditions.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and reporting skills.
