Job summary

A leading bioproducts company in Cardiff is seeking a talented Fermentation Manager to oversee fermentation operations and ensure high-quality product output. The ideal candidate will lead a team focused on safety, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives. A strong knowledge of industrial fermentation technologies and experience in managing operations are essential for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for all fermentation manufacturing operations, internal and external.
  • Lead and develop the fermentation team to drive safety and performance.
  • Set and monitor key performance indicators for fermentation.
  • Oversee large-scale equipment.
  • Stay current with industrial fermentation technologies.
  • Ensure staff adherence to routine maintenance and cleanliness of equipment.
  • Ensure continuous improvement in OEE (overall equipment effectiveness).
  • Ensure safe manufacturing and adherence to good practices.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Lead continuous improvement with Technical, Quality, Supply Chain, and Food Safety teams to optimise processes and productivity.
  • Manage and develop relationships with external fermentation partners.
  • Coordinate with Supply Chain to optimise raw material and product flow.
  • Apply business acumen to drive profitability through improvements.

Biocatalysts Ltd is comprised of 4 companies, headquartered in Cardiff (Wales, UK) and co‑located in Nieuwkuijk (Netherlands), Tampa (Florida, USA) and Ascheberg (Germany). Brought together as an integrated Bioproducts Division in October 2023, it is a wholly owned subsidiary of BRAIN Biotech Group, based in Zwingenberg (Germany). We serve customers globally with enzyme products and services in markets such as food, baking, beverage and life science.

Position

We are seeking a talented and motivated Fermentation Manager to lead and manage the fermentation operations (internal and external). The successful candidate will ensure on‑time dispatch of products and project materials, consistent high‑quality product, good manufacturing practices, and adherence to safety and environmental practices. The Fermentation Manager will lead continuous improvement initiatives to deliver the fermentation operational strategy.
