About The Role

Location: Nursling, Southampton

Days & Hours: Permanent hours: Morning support for Monday-Friday, 7.30am-9.30am. Bank Hours: Weekends, school holidays and absences of the current team. Occasional 2:1 care on Tuesdays 3pm-6pm to assist with hydrotherapy.

Typical term time Bank shifts: Monday-Friday, 7.30am–9.30am, Afternoons 2.45pm-7.45pm, Saturdays 4-6 hours e.g. 10am-4pm and the occasional Friday or Saturday evening to allow parents an evening out e.g. 6.30pm-11pm. Typical School holiday Bank shifts: Full days, Monday-Friday between 8.00am-6.00pm (If Bara is able to access a holiday club, may still need transporting and 1:1 support when there). Saturdays as required.

Driver required? Essential (will need own car to get to work) will be using own car to transport Bara, business insurance required and a mileage paid.

Driving Client's Car? Yes, longer term our client's Wheelchair Adapted Vehicle (WAV).

Using Own Vehicle for work purposes? Yes, on duty and to attend training.

Essential Experience: Experience working with children with disabilities, personal care and record keeping.

Desirable: Experience of supporting clients in their own homes, an interest in therapy.

Accommodation (while on duty): 3‑bedroom family home.

We are seeking patient and caring Support Workers for Bara, born in 2018. Bara is a delightful and engaging girl who lives with her parents and younger sister. She enjoys visiting the park, having books read to her, colouring, nursery rhymes and painting. Bara attends a local special school directly located opposite her new house in Nursling.

Bara sustained a neurological injury at birth which has resulted in a diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy affecting all 4 limbs and developmental delay. Bara is non‑weight bearing and requires hoisting for all transfers. She uses a specialist buggy outdoors and is a power wheelchair user; she requires specialist support to maintain her posture. Bara is doubly incontinent but is able to communicate when she needs toileting. She is making good progress with her verbal language and is supported by a team of therapists.

Your role will be to assist Bara with her personal care needs, supporting her with eating/drinking, transfers between her home equipment and supporting her to play and participate in home‑based activities and therapies after school. The role may also include taking her on trips out, supporting her to attend clubs, activities and hydrotherapy, also to be available on occasional evenings (to provide babysitting for both children), to allow the parents some respite for an evening out.

This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated person to join a dedicated family, and supportive care team to develop existing skills and support this very special little girl. A truly rewarding role for someone who is able to communicate effectively and an ability to work with patience, understanding, warmth and compassion.

About You

  • Female due to providing personal care
  • Must be able to work with specialist equipment (training will be provided). A Handling Management Plan is available and is designed to reduce the risk of handling injuries, but you may be required to bend, kneel, squat, push or pull.
  • Experience with working with Cerebral Palsy
  • Knowledge of and experience in using signing as a form of communication, (Makaton, Signalong, British Sign Language).
  • Confident and comfortable working in Bara’s own home and sensitive to the needs and wishes of her and her family
  • Can demonstrate commitment and passion for meeting Bara's needs
