Job description

Governor: FE curriculum experience (Curriculum & Quality Improvement Group Member)

South Staffordshire College is a thriving Further Education provider with five campuses across Tamworth, Lichfield, Cannock and Rodbaston, offering high-quality vocational and technical education to thousands of young people and adults. Guided by a mission to transform lives, the College is proud to be rated Good by Ofsted (April 2024), hold Outstanding Financial Health, and recently achieve the Investors in Diversity Silver Award. Governors play a vital role in supporting this work and helping the College meet local and regional skills needs.

The College is seeking skilled volunteers with experience in finance, audit, local skills, careers, or further education curriculum. Roles include membership of the Audit Committee, Finance & Resources Group, or Curriculum & Quality Improvement Group. Ideal candidates will be strategic thinkers, comfortable analysing complex information and offering constructive challenge. Professional backgrounds in accounting, education, workforce development, employer engagement, or community partnerships are all welcomed, and prior board experience is helpful but not essential.

As a governor, you will help shape the College’s strategic direction, ensure strong governance, and champion high-quality, inclusive education. The commitment is typically one to two days per month, including meetings, preparation, and occasional campus visits. Governors may also take on link responsibilities in areas such as Careers, Safeguarding or SEND. If you want to use your expertise to make a meaningful difference to learners, employers and communities across the Midlands, we would be delighted to hear from you.
