About Us:

Role Overview:

The successful candidate will be a highly experienced Family Solicitor with strong technical expertise across divorce, financial remedy, children law, and potentially high net-worth work. They will lead a small to medium-sized team, carrying their own caseload, but also supervising and mentoring junior solicitors. The role is structured with a clear path to becoming Head of Department within 12–24 months, depending on performance and business growth. They will combine outstanding client service with leadership, business development, and strategic planning to help grow and shape the family law offering.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a broad and complex caseload including divorce, financial remedy, children law (private), domestic violence/non-molestation, and cohabitation disputes.
  • Provide expert advice on high-value or high-net-worth family matters, including property, pensions, and business assets in divorce.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop junior staff, paralegals, and support staff.
  • Review work, provide feedback, and ensure high quality and compliance across the team.
  • Lead business development initiatives: generate new family work, build and maintain client relationships, work with marketing/business development on proposals and networking.
  • Assist with strategic planning for the Family Department: contribute to growth strategies, recruitment, budgeting, and resource planning.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements (SRA), file risk management, and quality assurance.
  • Represent the firm in professional forums (e.g., Resolution), contribute to thought leadership and client seminars.
  • Maintain accurate and timely billing, ensure targets are met, and monitor department profitability.
  • Collaborate with other areas of the firm (e.g., private client, litigation) for cross-referrals and integrated client service.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Qualified Solicitor, with 5+ years PQE in family law.
  • Strong track record in handling divorce, financial settlements, children proceedings, and related family work.
  • Experience of supervising or mentoring more junior lawyers.
  • Excellent legal drafting skills, including financial remedy paperwork, court applications, consent orders, and parenting plans.
  • Deep technical knowledge of family law, including pensions, business assets, cohabitation, and complex financial matters.
  • Strong business development and client management skills.
  • Good strategic thinking and commercial awareness.
  • Confident in decision-making, delegation and team leadership.
  • High emotional intelligence: able to manage sensitive issues with clients professionally and empathetically.
  • Excellent organisational skills, time management, and the ability to prioritise a busy portfolio.
  • Familiarity with legal case management and billing systems.
