Job description
The Opportunity

Do you enjoy helping others and want to make a difference in people’s daily lives? We have an exciting opportunity to join our friendly team as an Extra Care Assistant at Maes Y Mor Extra Care Scheme in Aberystwyth.

This dual‑role opportunity gives you the chance to work as a Catering Assistant or Cleaner, depending on the needs of the scheme. While the position supports both areas, you will not be expected to do both jobs at the same time.

This is a part‑time role at 12 hours per week.

What will you be doing?

Depending on which role you are working in, your duties will include:

As a Catering Assistant
  • Assisting with meal preparation and service for residents.
  • Helping with setting up and clearing the dining area.
  • Supporting residents with meal choices and ensuring a welcoming dining experience.
  • Following food hygiene and safety standards.
As a Cleaner
  • Carrying out routine cleaning of communal areas such as lounges, dining rooms, and bathrooms.
  • Following cleaning schedules and infection control procedures.
  • Ensuring a safe, tidy, and pleasant environment for residents and visitors.
In both roles, you will also
  • Follow health & safety and safeguarding policies.
  • Report any issues or concerns to the team leader or manager.
  • Be a friendly and reassuring presence for residents.

This is not a personal care role. You will not be expected to provide personal care or medical support to residents. Your focus will be on catering and cleaning tasks to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for our residents.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Friendly, reliable, and approachable.
  • Able to work well as part of a team but also confident working independently.
  • Flexible and willing to support either catering or cleaning tasks.
  • Comfortable interacting with residents in a positive and respectful way.

No previous experience is required, just a willingness to learn and a commitment to high standards.

What’s in it for you?

In return for your commitment, you will enjoy:

  • £12.60 per hour (increase to £13.45 in January 2026).
  • A supportive and welcoming team environment.
  • Part‑time hours with opportunities to pick up extra shifts.
  • Daytime‑only working hours (lunchtime service).
  • Regular weekends off for a healthy work‑life balance.
  • Paid travel expenses where applicable.
