Exam Invigilator

About The Worthgate School

Overview Of The Job

Undertake invigilation for public (A‑level, IGCSE, IBDP), University Foundation Programme or internal examinations, along with other examination‑related duties, under instruction from the Examinations Officer and/or a Senior Invigilator.

Main Responsibilities
  • A good level of written and spoken English to communicate efficiently with pupils and staff.
  • Adhere at all times to school standards and health and safety requirements.
  • Conduct examinations in accordance with the Joint Council for Qualifications, awarding bodies and Worthgate regulations.
  • Uphold the integrity and security of the examination/assessment.
  • Carry out any duty reasonably requested by the Examinations Officer.
  • Before examinations
    • Attend mandatory training before the exam period.
    • Be briefed by the Exams Officer prior to each exam session.
    • Keep exam question papers and materials confidential before, during and after exams.
    • Set up exam rooms according to requirements.
    • Admit and seat candidates following formal arrangements.
    • Distribute correct question papers and materials.
    • Instruct candidates on exam conduct and deal with questions.
    • Start exams in the absence of the Exams Officer.
  • During examinations
    • Supervise and observe candidates at all times.
    • Minimise disruption in exam rooms.
    • Deal with emergencies or irregularities effectively.
    • Record or report incidents, disruption or irregularities.
    • Complete attendance registers and seating plans.
    • Attend to candidate questions according to regulations.
  • After examinations
    • Instruct candidates on finishing exams and collect scripts and materials.
    • Dismiss candidates in a timely manner.
    • Verify candidate names on scripts against the attendance register.
    • Return all exam scripts and materials securely to the Exams Officer.
  • Other tasks
    • Perform additional training, updates and review sessions as required.
    • Undertake safeguarding training and updates as required by the School.
    • Depending on need: centre supervision of exam timetable clashes, facilitating access arrangements (reader, scribe, etc.), supporting the second pair of eyes check.
