About the College

Northumberland College is Ofsted Outstanding and is currently building a multi-million, state of the art, new college campus in Ashington, due to open in 2026. The successful candidate will be based at the new college where a purpose‑built construction, housing, advanced manufacturing and engineering centre will be located.

Curriculum spans technical, vocational further and higher education and includes large apprenticeship provision and dedicated centres for young people with SEND.

The College has two main campuses in Ashington, and Ponteland, and as part of the college group Education Partnership Northeast, it also has a significant number of satellite delivery centres across the region.

Served by easy road links, and the new train station in Ashington, when Northumberland College opens its new Department for Education backed campus at Wansbeck Business Park, the college will boast a national trailblazer both in architectural design and operation. This major £52 million+ investment comes on top of the College recently driving £14million into new facilities and resources at its existing sites.

About the Role

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated and competent individual to work as part of a busy Estates Team who are responsible for operating a number of campuses across the North East region.

Responsibilities will include the opening/securing of sites, basic repairs, completion of a planned preventative maintenance schedule, setting up of furniture as and when required, the removal of external litter/rubbish daily and the supervision of contractors/visitors.

Additional duties include dealing with graffiti/vandalism and snow/ice clearance of designated areas during the winter months.

Role Responsibilities
  • To operate as part of the estates team in the care, security and operation of ‘all’ college buildings and grounds at any college campus.
  • To support the Team Leader / Head of Estates in the daily operation and availability of all college sites.
  • To work with Team Leader / Head of Estates to ensure nominated site(s) continually maintain high levels of health and safety.
  • To work with Team Leader / Head of Estates to ensure nominated site(s) operate efficiently and effectively at all times.
  • To operate flexibly and in line with college opening hours and business demands (commercial activities).
  • To adopt a proactive approach towards improving service standards year on year, with strong emphasis on providing a professional and memorable customer focussed experience.
Qualifications
  • Possess or be prepared to work towards Level 2 Maths and English
  • A valid driving licence
  • Use of hand tools
  • Previous experience of basic trades e.g. plumbing/joinery/painting
  • Monitoring contractors
  • Previously employed within Estates/Facilities Management
  • Working at Height
