The role involves providing expert environmental sustainability advice to ensure the project team has the advice and management documents in place to meet all legal requirements and deliver on key sustainability targets, including carbon, biodiversity and circular materials.

The position is based onsite in Netherton, near Peterhead, but requires regular travel around Scotland for client meetings and other project support. Occasional nights away (up to approximately 4 times per year) will also be required. Relocation support will be considered as part of this role.

Responsibilities
  • Lead environmental sustainability requirements for the energy hub, developing resourcing plans and managing a team of advisors, graduates and specialists.
  • Advise senior managers within the business on environmental and sustainability requirements, ensuring they are embedded from an early design stage.
  • Develop a trusted and expert relationship with the customer, SSE, and key environmental stakeholders including SEPA, NatureScot and local authorities.
  • Create project environmental management documents for pre‑construction and live construction projects, in compliance with the Business Management System.
  • Audit and inspect live construction projects for compliance with the Business Management System, legal requirements and sustainability conditions of contract.
  • Deliver training and coaching to other environmental sustainability team members and the wider team (train‑the‑trainer support and materials will be given).
  • Support junior staff, particularly graduates and apprentices.
  • Audit and compile environmental and sustainability data collated through the in‑house sustainability portal.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the regional and group‑wide sustainability strategy, Building New Futures.
Qualifications

  • Experience implementing best practice and consenting processes for construction projects.
  • Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to drive continual improvement in the environmental and sustainability field of construction.
  • Ability to manage multiple work phases or projects.
  • Relevant degree or training.
  • Experience within the E&S field of construction, including at a management level.
  • Chartered membership of IEMA, CIWEM or equivalent (preferred but not essential).
  • Desirable – previous experience working on energy sector projects.
Benefits
  • Smart working with flexible start and finish times, including up to 40% remote working where roles allow.
  • 25 days paid annual leave (pro rata).
  • Family‑friendly policies: 28 weeks full pay for maternity/adoption leave and four weeks full pay for paternity/partner leave.
  • Pension, share incentive plan, volunteering leave, recognition schemes and more.
