Your responsibilities

Part of a dynamic engineering team meeting the technical challenges of maintaining and improving plant performance, through utilising theoretical knowledge you've gained in your studies with hands‑on, practical experience.

If given the role, several suitable projects will be assigned to you, and it will be your responsibility to complete these, with support from the team to a high standard during your placement at Connah’s Quay Power Station.

Post employment you will be fully onboarded and introduced to your new colleagues to make you feel part of the team.

Your initial activities will include spending time with the different teams on site to develop an understanding of each team’s contribution to the success of the power station. This will include:

  • Engineering Team: Planning for long term strategic engineering activities including major planned outages/shutdowns and projects.
  • Production Team: Understanding how the power Station is operated and how all the systems link together.

Following these initial introductions, you will form part of the Engineering Support team, through to the end of your placement and will be involved in:

  • Working with the Performance, Reliability and Compliance Engineers across a range of day‑to‑day tasks. This will include analysing process data, helping to improve Station reliability and availability whilst ensuring Compliance with relevant company and legal legislation (E.g Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR) and Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations(LOLER)).
  • The planning, development and safe execution of a range of works in a large complex industrial environment, across a number of technical areas.
  • Working with lots of different people, interacting with our managers and executive team.
  • Supporting the development of low carbon, sustainable solutions.
  • Utilising and developing a range of additional skills beyond your current technical capabilities, including safety, contractor management, commercial awareness, management of change processes and stakeholder management.
  • Please note this role is based on‑site Mon‑Fri 08:30-16:30.

This, combined with the business exposure you'll be gaining in an international energy company, will help build a solid foundation for your future career.
