Position Overview

The Engineering Planner is responsible for creating, optimising and planning preventative maintenance schedules, ensuring all required parts are available for each maintenance activity, managing lubrication standards and breakdown analysis reports, and meeting customer and organisational expectations. The Planner will be at the forefront of the Maximo CMMS for the Engineering department, liaising with external contractors for planned service and maintenance, and coordinating calibration activities with the Controls Team. This role will lead SAP purchasing of parts and servicing contracts. The position is office-based and will work closely with Maintenance Manager, Controls Manager, Facilities Manager, Manufacturing Shift Leads, Planners and Stores Team to communicate and organise maintenance activities and ensure maintenance compliance is met in a timely manner.

This role supports alignment with business objectives within the department while ensuring maintenance is fully functional and compliant with company and sector guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Maintenance Manager to deliver required KPIs.
  • Prioritise and align labour to PM and TPM tasks with Maintenance Manager, Manufacturing Shift Leads and Planners.
  • Support calibration and CMMS requirements with all Engineering Managers.
  • Ensure site assets are compliant with Safety & Quality standards and metrics.
  • Provide leadership to maintenance technicians on site, ensuring visibility and service to line-based teams.
  • Execute TPM to reduce machine time loss and improve OEE year on year.
  • Drive maintenance compliance through safety, quality and root-cause analysis.
  • Prioritise data-driven decisions based on actual figures.
  • Lead improvement and optimisation of scheduled maintenance procedures.
  • Implement predictive and preventative maintenance techniques and support autonomous maintenance.
  • Manage planned maintenance execution and ensure 100% compliance.
  • Coordinate with internal departments for operational readiness of new/modified installations to ensure safety, reliability and maintainability.
  • Share practices with TPM stakeholders across sites to improve results.
  • Understand financial metrics and KPIs; work with site leadership to achieve improvement goals.
  • Control and organise all statutory contractor visits; coordinate contractor management and permits for planned maintenance and servicing.
Authority
  • The Engineering Planner will deputise for the Maintenance Manager during absences.
Skills & Experience
  • Time served Engineer with considerable knowledge in manufacturing engineering.
  • Proficient in fault finding across mechanical/electrical/pneumatic systems.
  • Experience with CMMS (Maximo) and SAP; proficient with Office suite and statistical tools (e.g., Minitab) and project management tools.
  • Experience in a highly regulated maintenance environment; leadership experience within a maintenance framework is advantageous.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills; data-driven, with the ability to challenge when needed.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with shop floor and office staff.
Qualifications/Education
  • Time served engineer (electrical & mechanical); craft technician qualifications (NVQ4, PLC qualifications, C&G, ONC/HNC, BTEC or equivalent).
Team
  • Support the training and guidance of Engineering Apprentices and assist Maintenance Technicians in solving complex issues on production lines.
Travel & Languages
  • Travel may be required to attend training courses.
  • Languages: English (spoken and written).
Working Conditions & Special Factors

This role is shop floor-based, covering three manufacturing units. Weekday shift – Monday to Friday (09:00-16:30).
