Job description

This Apprenticeship will teach you fundamental principles of engineering, including the technical knowledge within your chosen pathway which include: Manufacturing, Maintenance, Electrical, Product Design, Fabrication or Material Finishing. This is the ideal starting point for an engineering apprentice.

  • Subject Area Engineering, Aerospace and Manufacturing
  • Study Mode: Day Release (2 days per week)

This Apprenticeship is aimed at those who would like to work in a practical role, can pay attention to detail, and have an interest in the engineering maintenance industry.

On this Apprenticeship you will:

  • Understand the necessary job instructions, engineering drawings, specifications and how to interpret them
  • Cover relevant statutory, quality, environmental compliance procedures/systems, organisational and health and safety regulations relating to engineering operations
  • Cover individual roles and responsibilities within the organisation and the flexibility required to support the achievement of company targets
  • Learn about engineering operational practices, processes and procedures
  • Identify potential problems that can occur within engineering operations and how they can be avoided

Apprentices will need to be working towards and achieve the following job role requirements before their end point assessment:

  • Prepare the work area and equipment
  • Identify hazards and hazardous situations
  • Obtain and follow the appropriate job documentation and work instructions; Extract the necessary data and information from specifications and related documentation
  • Carry out the engineering activities in line with their job role
  • Carry out quality checks as required; working with minimum supervision either individually or as part of a team and will be responsible for their own actions and for the quality and accuracy and timely delivery of the work they undertake

Every employer is different and therefore the entry requirements can vary. As a guide, you ideally need GCSE grade 4 in English and Maths.

If you are 19 or over, functional skills are not required unless requested by the apprentice’s employer.

If required, we will work with you and provide additional support to help you achieve their requirements, either prior to your Apprenticeship or during the delivery of your programme.

Our world class Technology Centre provides aerospace,engineering and automotive students with state ofthe art equipment and learning spaces. Our CADdesign suite includes 25 computers running the latestindustry software, and the CAM workshop contains CNCmachining equipment to give you an understanding ofmodern automated manufacture.
