Job summary

A training services provider in Redditch is offering an Apprentice Toolmaker position. The role includes a structured training program of academic study and hands-on workshop experience in conventional machining techniques, Electrical Discharge Machining, and fitting techniques. Ideal candidates will possess 5 GCSEs with mandated grades. After successful completion, the apprentice will transition into a full-time position within the company, including further training opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Candidate must have 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C / 9-5 for Maths.
  • Predicted grades must meet the same for English and Science.
  • Basic understanding of engineering drawings needed.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in structured training in manufacturing engineering.
  • Gain hands-on experience in machining and production techniques.
  • Complete academic studies alongside practical workshop work.

Job description

Through this Apprenticeship you will train as an Apprentice Toolmaker, where you will undertake a structured training program of academic study and workshop work.

The successful individual will gain first-hand experience of, but not limited to the following:

  • Setting and operation of conventional centre lathes
  • Milling and grinding
  • Operation of Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM)
  • Basic fitting techniques
  • Benchwork and associated techniques
  • Checking and inspection of tools made in house and externally
  • Understanding both in house and customer supplied engineering drawings
Entry Requirements

We are seeking applications from candidates who have or are predicted to gain 5 x GCSEs (or equivalent). Grades must be A*-C / 9-5 for Maths and A*-C / 9-4 for English, Science and two other subjects.

Training to be Provided
  • Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)
  • BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)
  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence)
Things to Consider

Ideally, candidate to live within a 30 minute commute of the factory in Redditch: B98 8JY.

The first year training will be held at MGTS centre in Redditch, when back on site after the first year the hours will be:

Monday – Thursday: 8.00am – 4.30pm

Friday: 8.00am – 3.00pm

All days include a 15-minute breakfast break and a 30-minute lunch break.

Following successful completion of your Apprenticeship, you will progress into a full-time employed position within the business. Further training and development opportunities will be available to successful individuals.
