Overview

We are currently looking for an Educational Psychologist to join our team. This full-time permanent post is available from 1 September 2025. Applications are welcome from qualified Educational Psychologists who are registered with the Health & Care Professions Council, as well as those who are Trainee Educational Psychologists due to qualify.

Salary

Salary: £49,789 – £53,995 per annum Soulbury EP Scale A 4 – 6 (previous SPA points will be awarded)

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: Full Time, 37 hours per week

Role and Service Context

You will join a friendly, lively and innovative team of School Aged and Early Years Educational Psychologists who are committed to assisting the Local Authority in achieving early intervention, increased inclusion and raising educational standards. The Service aims to support high expectations and achievement for all and to promote partnership with others while fulfilling statutory responsibilities and contributing to strategic priorities.

Main duties
  • Contribute to the Local Authority in a strategic role by supporting the Principal Educational Psychologist to ensure the Service contributes to the Corporate Aims and values of Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council.
  • Help the Local Authority fulfil its statutory duties in relation to the Additional Learning Needs Code for Wales (2021) and ALNET Act (2018).
  • Provide direct support to a number of schools/children/young people/families through a generic caseload.
  • Promote early identification and intervention, inclusion, school improvement and develop school capacity.
  • Work collaboratively with other agencies and partners, both statutory and non-statutory, to achieve the best outcomes for all.
  • Support children and young people’s learning and development, where appropriate, with groups addressing broader issues.
  • Develop a specialism and expertise alongside a generic role.
  • Participate in a range of work including critical incident response, mediation, conciliation and supervision of Educational Psychologists in training.
Experience and qualifications
  • You will have experience of: working with other agencies and with diverse client groups; working with school-aged children and young people; working with families to support their child’s development and needs; contributing to service evaluation; organising workshops and providing training to others.
  • Ideally you will have: Qualified as an Educational Psychologist and eligible for chartered status with the British Psychological Society; Registration with the Health & Care Professions Council as an Educational Psychologist.
