Job description

Our super friendly, highly supportive, and immensely creative Cheshire East Educational Psychology Service is continuing to grow, thrive, and expand!

We warmly welcome applications from qualified Educational Psychologists and Trainee Educational Psychologists seeking employment post qualification.

This is a full‑time post (37hrs Monday - Friday). However, part‑time, flexible working will be considered.

Soulbury A SCP 5 -10 £51,893 - £65,432 (including up to 3 SPA)

We are seeking Educational Psychologists who are committed to applying their breadth of knowledge and skills in psychology and education. In return, we will provide a balanced workload, opportunities to develop in areas of particular interest, with appropriate CPD and offer a capped amount of statutory casework.

We are committed to investing in the development of all our team members. Relevant CPD, tailored to you, will be available to further support your development in your role.

Highlights of the Educational Psychologist role

As an Educational Psychologist, you will:

  • Deliver high‑quality psychological services to children, young people, families, schools, early years settings, and colleges – applying evidence‑based strategies grounded in psychological theory to promote inclusion and maximise achievement.
  • Work collaboratively with education, health, social care, and voluntary partners to provide joined‑up support and contribute to multi‑agency planning for children and families.
  • Champion early intervention and prevention, supporting schools and settings to meet the requirements of the SEND Code of Practice and local authority policies, and helping to raise attainment and reduce exclusions.
  • Provide expert consultation and assessment, advising on the identification and management of additional needs and promoting positive change at individual, group, and systemic levels.
  • Contribute to statutory processes, including psychological advice for Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and involvement in complex casework.
  • Support school improvement, including work with schools in challenging circumstances or those identified by Ofsted or the LA as requiring additional support.
  • Promote innovation and evidence‑informed practice, engaging in research, action learning, and professional development activities that enhance outcomes for children and young people.
  • Develop and deliver training for schools, early years settings, and other professionals, sharing psychological knowledge to build capacity and improve practice.
  • Play an active role in service development, contributing to local and national strategies and helping shape approaches that reflect our commitment to relational practice and co‑production.

Cheshire East Educational Psychology Service is dynamic, forward‑thinking, and values driven. Relational practice is at the heart of everything we do – it’s not just a model; it’s our way of being. This ethos runs through every connection we make and every piece of work we deliver for children, young people, and families.

Our team is highly skilled, collaborative, and committed to excellence. We invest in our people, prioritising high‑quality supervision, professional development, and opportunities to lead on aspects of our co‑constructed service transformation plan. We champion shared learning through our Supervision Hub and specialist Working Groups, and we actively engage in research to ensure our practice remains innovative and impactful.

We deliver a broad and innovative range of evidence‑informed prevention and early intervention work, underpinned by our highly regarded partly‑traded model. This sits alongside our essential psychological contribution to statutory duties, ensuring we make a real difference for children and young people across Cheshire East. We are proud to be a service that embraces research, evaluates practice, and champions shared learning through our Supervision Hub and specialist Working Groups.

Our traded offer is extensive, and current developments include our PATH pilot, strengthening post‑16 support for young people with EHCPs and we’re already receiving outstanding feedback. We are committed to co‑production, using diverse models to keep children and young people firmly at the centre of our graduated approach. Our flexible working practices enable us to deliver educational psychology involvement at individual, targeted, and strategic levels, working in close partnership with schools, settings, stakeholders, and commissioners.

Recent commissions and innovations include:

  • Family Hub initiatives: Parent drop‑ins and bespoke training tailored to local needs (e.g., autism, attachment, emotional wellbeing, attendance barriers, parenting).
  • Neurodiverse assessment pathway: Multi‑disciplinary collaboration promoting neuro‑affirming practices.
  • Adoption Counts: Commissioned to provide consultation and training to a number of RRA’s.
  • Expanded consultation and training in and across Children’s Services: Diversifying assessment and reporting, in addition to developing ambitious programmes to enhance engagement and achievement.
  • Community‑based year‑round EP consultation and training: for Early Years and Family Hub staff.

Additionally, our service has recently been commissioned to broaden Virtual School support, strengthening our involvement and support for children and young people who are cared for. We also utilise a wide range of person‑centred planning, such as PATH, MAPS, Circle of Adults and make best use of multi‑element planning. All of which have yielded some wonderful feedback and impact.
