Job description

I’m recruiting for a Scrum Master to join my client based in the centre of Swindon. They work a hybrid model and would like someone happy to come into the office 2/3 days a week. It is an exciting time to be joining as the company is in the middle of a huge modernisation journey, modernising their tech, ways of working and moving a number of systems over to the cloud. They tech team work on a range of internal and external facing systems that are used by the company and their customers.

As part of this journey they have a brand new role for a SCRUM Master to join the team. This role is very hands on and focused on supporting small delivery teams of developers and QAs who balance planned sprint work alongside live system support. You’ll be facilitating sprint planning, daily stand ups, reviews and retrospectives in a way that keeps teams focused, accountable and moving forward. You’ll help teams plan realistically, keep sprint goals clear and achievable, track progress, surface risks early and support the effective handling of unplanned work without knocking delivery off course.

A big part of the role is around ways of working and continuous improvement. You’ll embed agile practices that genuinely fit the organisation and the maturity of each team, rather than forcing a one size fits all approach. Over time, you’ll help teams improve estimation, forecasting and throughput, using retrospectives to drive meaningful change rather than revisiting the same issues. You’ll work closely with product and delivery colleagues to improve prioritisation and backlog hygiene, and introduce clear, useful metrics that help teams understand flow, bottlenecks and delivery health.

The companies focus is on lightweight, outcome driven agility that supports teams delivering and supporting live systems. You’ll need to be comfortable adapting agile principles to context, avoiding heavyweight governance, excessive ceremony or anything that feels like waterfall in disguise.

Coaching and facilitation sit at the heart of this role. You’ll coach teams and individuals on agile principles and behaviours, support newer team members in understanding how to work effectively in sprints, and facilitate constructive conversations when priorities clash or pressure is high. You’ll encourage teams to self organise while still maintaining strong delivery discipline.

You’ll also play an important role in stakeholder collaboration. This includes working with product, delivery and technology leadership to improve planning and visibility, translating business priorities into workable delivery plans, and helping teams communicate progress, risks and dependencies clearly. You’ll act as a bridge between delivery teams and stakeholders, without becoming a blocker or gatekeeper.

We are looking for an experienced SCRUM Master, ideally within a live production environment, with experience adapting agile practices to fit organisational reality, working with cross functional teams including engineering, QA and product, and working in environments with legacy systems or mixed technology estates. . They want someone with the ability to challenge constructively and influence without authority, and a calm, pragmatic approach when dealing with ambiguity and competing priorities

Salary is around £70,000.
