Title: Manufacturing Sewing Technician
Reporting to: Manufacturing Production Coordinator

Overview

J&C Joel supplies, manufactures, and installs a range of products in the entertainment and events industry. The core of its business is flame-retardant fabrics and manufacturing high-end technical and decorative drapery. Over the last 15 years, J&C Joel has hugely grown and developed its stage engineering solutions through its Projects department, which installs a wide range of systems, ranging from basic curtain tracks and drapery, through to high-performance motorised rigging and stage engineering, with sophisticated automation controls.

Role Purpose:

Reporting to the Manufacturing Production Coordinator this role is responsible for the efficient production of drapes and specialist creative textiles within the Manufacturing department. The role predominantly revolves around operating sewing machines and a high level of accuracy in sewing, measurement and fault identification is required.

Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities:
  • Operate a sewing machine to manufacture drapes to a high standard, whilst efficiently carrying out quality checks and fault identification during the process.
  • Carry out basic servicing on the sewing machines that includes cleaning & lubrication of the machine.
  • Assist the Cutting Technician.
  • Ensure personal workspace is always kept clean and tidy and when required assist with departmental cleaning as instructed by the Production Coordinator.
  • Be available to work on site, using skills and experience gained in house, this may involve travelling time and potential overnight stays.
  • Maintain a basic level of Health & Safety in all work practices and ensure where necessary any supplied PPE is utilised.
  • Participate in and promote any Company schemes or Policies as and when required to further the development of the department and /or Company. In all work and practices ensure the J&C Joel values are exhibited.
  • Any other ad-hoc duties considered reasonable, as requested by the Manufacturing Manager.
Skills & Experience
  • Previous experience of sewing and using a sewing machine.
  • Experience of operating Flat Bed and Overlocking machines
  • Ability to work as both individual and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work methodically and be organised.
  • Ability to work under pressure is a must.
  • Flexible working ethos due to last minute overtime will be required.
  • Effective Time Management Skills.
  • Quality driven and a fine eye for detail.
  • Punctual & reliable
  • Fluency in the English language both verbal and written is essential.
  • Previous experience of drapey
  • Ability to read technical drawings and understand specifications highly desirable (CAD/Coral)
  • Previous experience of working with customers on site.
