Driver Development Coach

- Reports to: Driver Development Manager
- Salary: £35,000 – £45,000 per annum (including car allowance or company vehicle)
- Hours: 42.5 hours per week – 5 out of 7 days, with evening work as required
We’re looking for a proactive and engaging Driver Development Coach to support and develop our driver workforce across the region, focusing on driver competency, safety and professional development, while actively working to improve driving performance, reduce risk and embed a strong culture of compliance and safety.
About The Role
As a Driver Development Coach you’ll be at the heart of our driver training and compliance efforts. You’ll deliver tailored training, manage CPC programmes and provide hands‑on coaching to help drivers improve performance, reduce risk and meet professional standards. This is a highly visible and rewarding role, perfect for someone who thrives on mentoring, problem‑solving and making a difference on the road.
Key Responsibilities
- Driver Competence & Compliance
- Conduct annual driver assessments and monitor compliance with DTAS, Red Tractor and other standards
- Support safe vehicle use, load security and operational procedures (e.g. BLACK process)
- Deliver training for new drivers, apprentices and industry entrants
- Maintain accurate and auditable competency records
- CPC Training Management
- Plan and coordinate CPC training schedules for regional drivers
- Ensure training topics align with company needs and industry standards
- Deliver or facilitate CPC sessions via face‑to‑face and online platforms
- Performance, Risk & Safety
- Support investigations into infringements, accidents and near misses
- Monitor telematics data (e.g. Microlise) and coach drivers to improve safety and efficiency
- Provide constructive feedback and practical coaching to reduce incidents
- Driver Support & Development
- Lead driver inductions and integrate new drivers into the business
- Provide ongoing support to apprentices and new‑to‑sector drivers
- Act as a trusted point of contact for driver training and guidance
What We’re Looking For
- Experience & Qualifications
- Experience as a Driver Trainer, Assessor or senior driver with training responsibilities
- Strong knowledge of UK transport regulations and vehicle safety standards
- Proven experience delivering driver assessments and training (classroom and on‑road)
- Understanding of Driver CPC requirements and training delivery
- Full, clean UK driving licence, including LGV Category C+E
- Recognised driver training qualification (e.g. RTITB, LGV Instructor) or equivalent experience
- Skills & Attributes
- Excellent communication, coaching and influencing skills
- Strong organisational and analytical abilities
- Confident working independently and managing a varied workload
- Able to challenge constructively and drive continuous improvement
- Skilled in using telematics data to support driver development
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and digital training platforms
