Dog Care Attendant

Location: Kensington Seeing Eye Dogs facility

Base Salary: $43.23 per hour + Superannuation with Salary Packaging up to $15.9k

As a division of Vision Australia, Seeing Eye Dogs strives to develop and maintain innovative, high-quality dog guide services to enhance the mobility and independence of people who are blind or have low vision.

We follow the journey of a Seeing Eye Dog from their breeding and initial development as puppies, through their advanced training to ensure they can safely guide their future partners, to matching them with a client and finally ending with their happy retirement after eight years of dedicated service.

Responsibilities

As our Dog Care Attendant, you will provide a high standard of care for all dogs belonging to Vision Australia Seeing Eye Dogs (SEDA), including health, husbandry, cleaning and enrichment, breeding, neonatal care, whelp monitoring and assistance, enrichment, and socialisation. In this role you will also:

  • Ensure high level of welfare standards are provided for all dogs under the care of SEDA
  • Effective use of positive reinforcement, safe and ethical dog handling methods, and application of least intrusive and minimally invasive principles in all interactions with dogs
  • Adhere to SEDA standards, policies and procedures
  • Arrive punctually for all shifts and team handovers
Qualifications

As part of the Seeing Eye Dogs team, you should have experience in kennel, boarding centre, animal shelter, adoption centre, large veterinary clinic or similar environment. In addition, proven ability to handle and care for dogs is required. You will also have:

  • Ability to work collaboratively and positively within a team environment
  • Excellent initiative, self‑management and time‑keeping skills and ability to work autonomously
  • Ability to provide effective coaching and training of staff, volunteers and students
