Director Communications, British Business Bank

Location: Sheffield / London / Hybrid Working (Expectation that you will attend an office 2 days per week)

Contract: Permanent

Hours: Full time 37.5 hours per week/flexible days and/or hours (Mon-Fri)

Salary: Up to £100,000 (Sheffield) / Up to £115,000 (London) depending on experience

The Role

In this role you will be responsible and accountable for leading the British Business Bank’s Communications function, with a primary purpose to build, manage and protect the reputation of the Bank with its stakeholders and other target audiences, and to lead the development and delivery of the communications strategy to support the Bank’s Five-Year Plan.

An outstanding media strategist, you will lead the Bank’s corporate communications to key stakeholders, delivery partners, intermediaries, trade associations and business groups and institutional investors at both a national and regional level, including the Devolved Nations.

You will also be responsible for all external communications including information provision on access to finance to the UK’s smaller businesses to start up, scale up and stay in the UK. You will be comfortable working alongside marketing and social media specialists and working as part of an integrated marketing communications team leading communications campaigns targeted at small businesses.

As an outstanding communications leader with extensive experience of corporate communications and reputation management, you will have a demonstrable track record advising the C Suite to communicate business strategy, commercial objectives and to build brand equity, with a range of stakeholders.

An excellent understanding of the intersection between business, economics, and politics, is also required, as is significant expertise in reputation management, including crisis communications. Experience operating at a senior level and be confident and comfortable working as a trusted advisor to the Bank’s CEO, Executive Committee and Senior Leadership Team is also essential.
