Female applicants wanted to work with a 6‑year‑old girl with a rare condition that causes mobility difficulties. She uses a wheelchair and has diagnoses of autism, ADHD, and a mild learning disability.

This young girl is very sociable and loves to be the centre of attention, making people smile. She adores singing, dancing, and other forms of dramatic showmanship.

She enjoys imaginative play and has a keen sense of creativity, and also enjoys trampolining, swimming, and trips to local play parks.

She also enjoys spending time with pet‑like animals and has an affinity for dogs.

Due to her needs, she has no danger awareness for roads and requires supervision in the community for safety. She also requires support with self‑care and maintaining attention on a task.

Applicants should be very patient, have experience with SEN needs, and a driver’s licence is preferred.

About the role

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Encouraging the recipient to engage in activities.
  • Helping to improve their social skills.
  • Settling and supporting the individual.
  • Keeping them safe in the community.
  • Helping to fulfil their potential and aspirations.
  • Attending/transporting the individual to social activities and appointments.
  • Encouraging social interaction and inclusion and providing emotional support.
  • Female staff required due to possible intimate personal care being required.
About the candidate

The suitable candidate must:

  • Be conscientious and committed to providing support as necessary for the child.
  • Be patient, caring and understanding.
  • Be able to build a positive relationship with the child to both encourage and support them.
  • Be flexible to meet the needs of the family.
  • Have knowledge of working with or supporting a child with special needs.

Children and Young People, Specialist Services Direct Payments is an in‑house service provided by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council to support families of Children and Young People with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities to fulfil their potential and aspirations.

Whilst caring experience is always useful, you don’t necessarily need to have worked in care to be a great Direct Payment Worker, the right attitude and a person‑centred approach is more important.

A genuine occupational requirement for a female worker exists for this post under the Equality Act 2010 due to privacy and decency.

Travel

Some travel across East Riding of Yorkshire may be required, applicants must be able to transport themselves.
