Reports to: Digital Print Production Manager

Working Days: Monday – Friday

Salary: £28,000 – £35,000 per annum, depending on experience (DOE)

Role Overview

Westcolour is seeking a skilled Digital Print Operator who will operate digital printing equipment, manage prepress preparation, co‑ordinate effectively across teams, maintain a safe and efficient production environment, and assist in training apprentices. This is a full‑time, on‑site position in Bicester, reporting directly to the Digital Print Production Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Digital Print Operations
  • Operate digital presses and related equipment.
  • Oversee job set‑up, media selection, processing, and print output quality control.
  • Perform routine press maintenance to ensure optimal performance and minimise downtime.
  • Prepress Duties
  • Review and prepare digital files for print readiness.
  • Conduct preflight checks, colour correction, proofing, and ensure adherence to specifications and standards.
  • Collaborate with clients and internal teams to resolve file or workflow issues.
  • Co‑ordination & Communication
  • Manage production schedules and job priorities.
  • Liaise with prepress, production, logistics, and client services teams.
  • Track job progress, report delays, and proactively troubleshoot issues.
  • Health, Safety & General Operations
  • Follow and enforce Health & Safety procedures within the production area.
  • Maintain a clean, safe workspace in line with company standards.
  • Record job metrics and update production logs.
  • Suggest improvements to enhance workflow, efficiency, and quality.
  • Support the development and training of apprentices within the print production team.
  • Provide guidance on equipment operation, prepress workflows, and best practices.
  • Monitor apprentice progress and provide constructive feedback.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Proven experience as a Digital Print Operator, with knowledge of prepress workflows, production co‑ordination, and press maintenance.
  • Experience in training or mentoring apprentices is highly desirable.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety practices within a print production environment.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Flexible to work occasional overtime during busy period.
