About OrgOx

OrganOx is an innovative, fast‑paced, global medical device company with a mission to save lives by making every donated organ count. Spun out of the University of Oxford in 2008, we are committed to improving transplantation outcomes worldwide. Our first product, the OrganOx metra® normothermic machine perfusion (NMP) system for liver transplantation, has been used to support more than 5,000 operations globally.

Position Summary

The Digital Architect is responsible for providing expertise in the strategy, design and governance of digital projects, with a focus on scalable and secure solutions. This role supports the ongoing evolution of OrganOx's digital products, ensuring alignment with business objectives and regulatory requirements. It requires a combination of strategic and hands‑on skills, coupled with technical expertise across the full technology stack (IoT, cloud, applications and data science). This is an on‑site position in Oxford with flexibility.

Major Responsibilities
  • Architect scalable, reliable and secure end‑to‑end digital solutions that work effortlessly with our perfusion devices, covering both front‑end and back‑end components.
  • Create an end‑to‑end lifecycle strategy and evolve alongside changes in the business strategy.
  • Lead the development of solutions (mobile, web portals), ensuring seamless integration with cloud and data services. Collaborate with and provide technical guidance to UI/UX designers and software developers to create cohesive and intuitive user experiences.
  • Line‑manage a team of internal development resources, working in alignment with an external development team.
  • Collaborate with internal cross‑functional teams and work alongside external partners to translate requirements, enhance capabilities and achieve project objectives.
  • Monitor and optimise the performance of services, guaranteeing optimal user experiences for our users. Support troubleshooting and resolution of issues that may arise.
  • Ensure solutions are designed for scalability, resilience, and compliance with relevant standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, IEC 62304).
  • Maintain documentation and support the implementation of frameworks that enable efficient development and ongoing support.
  • Adhere to the letter and spirit of OrganOx's Code of Conduct and all other company policies.
Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience as an architect, preferably within a regulated healthcare/life‑science environment and with enterprise solutions.
  • Hands‑on expertise in full‑stack development technologies (IoT, Azure cloud, mobile, web, APIs, microservices), including front‑end and back‑end components.
  • Familiarity across a variety of relevant development languages/frameworks (.NET, C#, React, etc.).
  • Expertise in contemporary development methodologies in a regulated industry, such as Agile, and experience implementing such practices within small development teams consisting of internal and external partners.
  • Experience in providing technical leadership to team members and engaging directly with customers if necessary.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of medical device data security and compliance requirements (HIPAA, GDPR, IEC 62304, etc.).
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
