The Position
The Opportunity

This four year degree apprenticeship combines University-based learning with on-the-job training. You will attend Chichester University to complete a Software Engineering Degree, whilst working as part of the IS IT Office Team to deliver first class customer support by telephone, remote services and on-site (as appropriate).

This is mainly an office-based role reporting to the Technical Manager – Information Solutions, with a requirement to attend university at an agreed frequency.

The IT Apprentice (ITA) will play a key role in supporting both the IS IT Office team and wider organisational technology needs. They will provide hands‑on assistance with hardware and software related to Roche IT product installations, while also contributing to the development, enhancement and promotion of new technologies across the team. The role includes setting up and maintaining various devices and remote connection equipment, as well as delivering on‑site support to colleagues during complex technical situations. The IT Apprentice will also take responsibility for proactive system monitoring and will participate as a valued member of project teams whenever required.

Key responsibilities
  • Handling customer and staff enquiries (by phone or in writing)
  • Supporting field-based technical service activities
  • Presenting a professional image while providing high-quality customer support
  • Strong commitment and enthusiasm toward the degree course studies
  • Processing internal colleague enquiries/complaints and troubleshooting
  • Identification of product quality issues and escalation to next level of skill and/or specialism
  • Use of remote service for diagnostic support
  • Documentation with CRM system
  • Handling of simple customer complaints, including communication with customers and Roche colleagues
  • Evaluation work in Test IT environment to assist troubleshooting
  • Assisting colleagues with troubleshooting on‑site
  • Planned maintenance activities to assist field support representatives (maintenance, installation, modification)
  • Basic corrective maintenance activities to assist field support representatives
  • Configuration of new systems
  • Minimum number of site visits per annum to maintain knowledge of local laboratory practice and requirements
Who you are
  • Strong IT skills and a genuine interest in developing a career in IT
  • Effective team player with the ability to engage positively with customers and colleagues
  • Good problem‑solving abilities and high attention to detail
  • Minimum of 2 A Levels plus 5 GCSEs (grades 9–4 / A–C), including Maths, English, IT and ideally a science subject
  • Hold a valid UK driving licence
  • Confident communicator with a proactive, customer-focused approach
Location and Recruitment Process
