Job description

Join to apply for the Decontamination Technician role at Grundon Waste Management.

Working hours: 7am-3.30pm, Mon-Fri – 40 hours per week. You must be flexible for emergency response, occasional weekends and working away from home.

What you will be doing as a Decontamination Technician
  • Carry out specialist cleaning tasks – deep cleaning, tank cleaning, site decontamination, decommissioning and emergency response, often in confined spaces, with high-pressure water jetting, working at height, handling hazardous, chemical or biological materials.
  • Operate tools and equipment safely in line with risk assessments and standard operating procedures.
  • Support the development and implementation of health, safety, environmental and quality procedures.
  • Maintain high site standards – housekeeping, equipment care and proper storage of tools and consumables.
  • Comply with site permit‑to‑work systems.
  • Report any equipment faults or PPE/RPE issues promptly.
  • Participate in training, pre‑job risk assessments and the emergency response rota as required.
  • Complete job‑related documentation accurately and on time, working closely with Technical Operations.
  • Assist with vehicle cleaning and restocking after use and perform waste packaging and collection duties.
  • Ensure full compliance with all company policies and procedures, including correct use of PPE and RPE, health and safety and employment.
  • Undertake alternative duties at the Hazardous Waste Transfer Station and any other ad hoc tasks or projects as assigned by management or the Board, within the scope of your skills and capabilities.
What we’re Looking For
  • Previous experience in industrial cleaning, hazardous waste handling or a similar field is highly desirable.
  • Strong awareness of health & safety practices and willingness to work in high‑risk environments.
  • Physically fit, reliable, able to work as part of a team or independently.
  • Willingness to participate in training and emergency rota duties.
  • A flexible approach to working hours, including emergency response and occasional working away from home.
  • Attention to detail, particularly with documentation and compliance procedures.
  • Willingness to work towards certifications such as IPAF, PASMA, CSCS or NEBOSH/IOSH qualifications.

This equipment has a manufacturer‑specified maximum load‑bearing limit of 140kg. To ensure the safety of our employees and maintain compliance with safety standards, we enforce a strict weight limit of 140kg for these positions.
