Job description
Investment Consultant

Do you want an investment consulting role advising institutional clients supported by Aon’s breadth of specialist knowledge and expertise? Would you enjoy being part of a diverse team focused on driving positive outcomes for both clients and colleagues? If you’re passionate about joining an innovative and market leading business, then read on!

This is a hybrid working role with flexibility to work both virtually and from our Birmingham Office.

At Aon, we shape decisions for the better to protect and enrich the lives of people around the world. As an organization, we are united through trust as one inclusive, diverse team, and we are passionate about helping our colleagues and clients succeed.

What the day will look like

As an Investment Consultant you will lead smaller client relationships and act as a support consultant for medium to large clients, overseeing the day‑to‑day deliverables and junior support team. You will deliver advice predominantly to defined benefit pension schemes but also endowments, charities, and other institutional clients. Given the breadth of capability at Aon, you will be supported by a team of dedicated client‑facing colleagues as well as expertise from our many specialist teams such as risk & modelling, investment manager research, asset allocation and more.

Your day‑to‑day focus will include:
  • Working with Lead Consultants to build relationships with clients, as well as understand and solve the challenges they face
  • Driving business results through efficient delivery of client service and connecting and working with colleagues across Aon’s specialist teams
  • Identifying opportunities to innovate and drive efficiency
  • Developing junior colleagues into future consultants
  • Promoting an inclusive culture across Aon
How this opportunity is different

At Aon, the opportunity is much wider than just the local consulting team. You’ll quickly build a network across different offices, business areas and Aon teams, working with a variety of clients. With a persistently developing investment backdrop, we quickly allocate teams and dedicate resources to respond to market developments, providing a vast array of opportunities for consultants to specialise and create their own role within the business. There is a strong focus on sharing ideas and working as a team within the UK investment team and across Aon, supported by regular video conference calls that keep consultants up to date on the latest business results, specialist insights and new initiatives.

"At my previous company we had one person responsible for the vast majority of thought leadership and market updates. My mind was blown when I learned that at Aon we have dedicated teams of economists, risk settlement experts, a Responsible Investment specialist team, and more! As well as making us so much more dynamic when responding or anticipating market or industry events, it also gives colleagues great opportunities to specialise in different emerging areas."

Skills and experience that will lead to success

We’re looking for individuals with:

  • Strong experience of managing relationships with clients
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to distil complex information
  • Ability to manage small teams of colleagues and delegate effectively
  • Experience of direct people management (preferred)
  • Knowledge of investment markets and UK pension schemes (preferred)
  • A desire for new challenges!
