Job description
Department/Division: Community Services - Recreation
Location: On-Site (Stratford, ON)
Duties: The Leader ‑ in ‑ Training (LIT) supports the City of Stratford Day Camp while learning leadership skills under the guidance of senior staff. LITs participate in camp while gradually taking on responsibility.

Work Performed:

  • Provide excellent customer service and project a positive image for the City of Stratford; being courteous and respectful to campers, caregivers, and members of the community.
  • Follow direction and guidance from co‑workers and the supervisory team, accepting suggestions and feedback in a positive, learning‑focused manner.
  • Demonstrate initiative by looking for tasks that need attention and actively participating in activities to build leadership skills.
  • In collaboration with the staff team, plan and implement the daily activities of the camp program including games, crafts, and special events.
  • Provide mature leadership and complement the staff team through effective supervision of participants.
  • Provide any necessary information to assist in the exchange of camper‑specific communication with caregivers.
  • Attending training and staff meetings.
  • Work with team to ensure all program duties and checklists are complete.
  • Provide coverage to shifts in the event of staff absence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

  • Previous experience of working with children and youth is an asset.

Specialized Skills, Abilities, Training, License, Memberships, or Certifications

  • Previous experience in a recreation programming setting is an asset.
  • Previous leadership‑related experience and the ability to work well with others.
  • Demonstrate initiative and a positive attitude toward tasks and willingness to grow.
